For reference: poppy flowers have alkaloids in them. Alkaloids are used to make codeine and morphine.

Shannon | 1 comments Well, I think they symbolize each characters impact or importance to each other. I haven't had a chance to read the book yet, but I'm pretty sure Haven symbolizes that shes Poppys savior, or 'haven' from abuse. Meanwhile the name Poppy symbolizes how important to Haven to protect. Almost like it's her addiction to save her sister. Those thoughts could change after I read it.

Tiffini Johnson | 1 comments I think so! The name Haven definitely represents a harbor, a safe haven, or protection. Without a 'haven,' there's no buffer from the pain. To me, though, Poppy protected Haven, too, because, without her younger sister, Haven wouldn't have had any joy and might have given up hope. Having someone to protect kept her motivated. It was really interesting because I didn't know that poppies had pain-relieving properties until about mid-way through the book.
