I don't know that TEotA is my kind of book or not, but I have had it on my TBR for a long time. I saw your review. You were honest and true to yourself about why you gave it only two stars. That is what appeals to me when I read reviews.

Thanks Cherie. I don't always write reviews but, if I do, I might as well be honest about what I think. You may well have a different opinion of the book. It'd be interesting to find out.

I read it so I could take part in a local book group discussion that I'd never been to before. Only two others attended due to yesterday's bad weather - the lady who chose the book was one of them so it cramped my style a little when it came to expressing my opinion (lol). So I felt I should definitely put something out there on Goodreads.

I put the Penguin deluxe print edition on hold at my library. I don’t have the Penguin task, but I can use the book for Card 25, Art/Lit-Nay. It is immensely shorter than the book I had “planned”. It will have to go on my Badge 3 list though since I already used Card 25 for Badge 1.

I loved Rosamund Pike's narration! (assuming that's the one you listend to?) I'm always worried I'll find classics a dry/dull reading experience, but narrators like this really bring it alive on audio! She also narrated Sense & Sensibility too.

I agree. She really made the book work for me. I don't think I would have found it as enjoyable otherwise. Her voices were perfect. I was irritated by her voice for Mrs Bennet at first - she sounded too whimsical and young - but once I'd figured out what sort of character she was, her voice was just right. And Lady Catherine was excellent too.

My favourite character (apart from Elizabeth and Mr Darcy of course) was actually Mr Bennet. He was so cool and collected - sat quiet happily in his library waiting for the world to come to him and let the girls in the family get on with being themselves.

Definitely worth reading

I am not quite finished with The End of the Affair, but you said you were interested, if I read it, so... (view spoiler)[It really jerks one around. I like them and I don't like them. I agree on that. Yes, the weather and London scenes were good. I liked the sleet getting in the buttonholes of M's coat as he tried to run across the Commons to Sarah's house before she could leave. I just got past the scene where that Father Crompton man came to Henry to convince him that he should bury Sarah's body and have a Catholic funeral. Whew, that was emotional. I really like some of the things he says, but I do not agree with them all. I think he meant this story to be as emotional as it is and I think he meant to have to whole God/not God conversation too. I am just not sure what I am supposed to be convinced about yet. I will see what happens next and let you know. Sylvia Black and Maurice are still on the train together talking quietly. I am leaving them there for now. I cannot read any more of it today. (hide spoiler)]
