Hi all!

We asked everyone about ideas regarding next years book read. It was a unanimous agreement that we let one member for each month, depending on how many sign up, pick a book and moderate for that month's book discussion.

If you are interested in participating, post your name and the month of your choice, unless you have no preference.

Be aware there are a few rules.

1. Authors are NOT allowed to pick their own books. Other members, who participates, can pick the book of author members.

2. The Book must be easily available in different formats. ie. audio, ebook, hard copy, library accessible. (If the book is a Hidden Gem please make sure that the book is also easily available, if not, maybe we can save it for the next Around the World?)

3. It must be the first of a series or the first book(s) has been read in the group previously.

4. The book MUST be YA or middle grade

5. Please make sure the book has not been previously read in this group. You can see all the books we've read in the "Bookshelf"

Although not a rule, we do ask the participants to choose books that are not relatively new. Meaning, if the book came out in January maybe you can ask to be put in March or April.

You do not necessarily need to post your book when you put your name, but please let the members know at least two weeks before your given month which book you have picked.

Finally, you are responsible for moderating in your chosen/given month. Don't worry we don't expect anything fancy.

Any other questions, please ask us, we would love to answer them!

Your Lovely Moderators! ^_^

ILyk Tourid (annvalane) Hi, I haven't been active so far but would like to participate. Thanks!

I of course am in! I have a few hidden gems up my sleeve so will have to narrow it down. I am not picky about what month I get!

Thanks for getting this started Bluemoon.

message 7: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments If we don't get 12 people to sign up, I can take a second month too :) We'll see how it goes!

Anita wrote: "Hi, I haven't been active so far but would like to participate. Thanks!"

No worries. As long as you make sure to stick around for your month the more the merrier :)

message 9: by ILyk (new)

ILyk Tourid (annvalane) Any month's okay with me. Or two months. Do I pick a book/(s) I'd like to read or am reading or have read? I have a long list of favourites in all three :P

message 10: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Anita it should be a book you have read and loved but most everyone you know has NOT read it. What I have done in the past is looked at my 4 and 5 star rated YA books and checked to see how many of my Goodreads friends have read them. If it is under 5 (I prefer under 3) friends I would consider that a hidden gem. Does that make sense?? You can decide how you want just make sure it is not a big blockbuster that everyone has likely read :)

Of course I'm in! I can take January (and I'd be happy to do more than one if the spots don't fill up).

message 12: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Ok cool. I think that is 5 months so far. I can also pick two months like Jenny and Brigid said if necessary :) I hope not though!

oooo...this is pretty good. Ok I'll keep in mind who wants to do seconds...

Tiffany York | 1 comments I will take July so that I'll be off work for the summer :)

Yay! Another taker. Bluemoon are you planning on asking everyone for their "hidden gem" after we get all the months covered so we have the list in advance or how are we doing this???

message 16: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I think August or June would be my best options. I would prefer to figure out my pick later, though.

message 17: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Yeah, I kind of think we don't need them that far in advance, say maybe a few weeks before each month starts? I haven't thought up my choice yet, but when I do, I'll probably run it by Heidi first to make sure its acceptable :)

message 18: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Ok so how about we get the Jan. choice first and then get the following months choices by the first week of the previous month so people have a few weeks to reserve it from the library or whatever?? (i.e. Feb. book choice would be announced the first week of Jan.)

I would be more than happy to review any nominations if anyone needs some help - just PM me :)

message 19: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments That sounds good to me Heidi!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't been participating a lot in this group. I want to participate more. This sounds like a wonderful idea! I would like to do October. I have a question about the book though. I know that it says to choose books that are not relatively new, but is it okay to pick books that are like really old? Sorry if my question was already answered. Thanks!

message 21: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Sure old books are fine as long as I can get it at the library! Welcome!

I initially said that the members doesn't need to give us a list of their hidden gem. They should provide the title at least two weeks before their month.

If you know what book you want to read before that time, you can let us know so it will be easier for us to get it from the library, bookstore, etc.

message 25: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Thanks Bluemoon! I missed that. Sorry :(

message 26: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I can pitch in for more than one too, if need be!

Hmm well here are three books that I love that I don't think many people in this group have read ... ?

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill Winger (Winger, #1) by Andrew Smith Leviathan (Leviathan, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

message 33: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I have All Our Yesterdays and Winger on audiobook so either would be great for me!

message 34: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I have not read Winger or Leviathan, and I do have a copy of Leviathan already ;)

message 35: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments But I wouldn't mind rereading All Our Yesterdays, too, so that's fine too!

Awesome. I know you are a big fan of him Brigid. This will be my first read of his :)

I haven't read any of them. I have a copy of Cristin's and Westerfeld and Smith's Marbury Lens. I'll put a hold on Winger if that's the agreed choice. It will be my first read of Andrew Smith too!

message 44: by ILyk (new)

ILyk Tourid (annvalane) Hi, I'm quite new to the posting so I don't know how to get the little icons. Any ideas? A list ok? I'll try my best with moderating, :P

message 45: by ILyk (new)

ILyk Tourid (annvalane) Not-so poular ones -my hidden gems -depending on availability on audio
1. Jonathan Howard : Katya's world -imaginative sci-fi. My first sci-read that was thrilling.
2.Richard Paul Evans: Michael Vey cell 25 -middle grade/easy read
3. Todd Strasser: Fallout - mix of apocalyptic and historical
Popular ones -
McGinnis: Not a drop to drink
Rae Carson : Girl of fire and thorns
Rachel Hartman: Seraphina
For a fun read soft sci-fi -Melissa Landers : Alienated

message 46: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I've read Not a Drop to Drink and Girl of Fire and Thorns, and they are both very good. I've also read Alienated, and it was just okay for me.

On that list, I'd vote for Michael Vey and Seraphina, both books I've wanted to read :)

Thanks for the quick nominations Anna! By the way, to add a book when you are in the comment box look up in the left corner - there is something that says "add book/author" - click on that an search for the book by name. At the bottom of the search it says "link" or "book cover" - click on which one you would like. The link just shows the name of the title not the cover. Just be aware that sometimes when people are on mobile devices this is different AND some people using mobile devices get frustrated when you show the cover instead of the link because it doesn't show up on their device. In my audiobooks group we are told to only use the link so I use both a lot of times just in case.

Wow Anna! Good nominations. I have only read Seraphina! I own Not A Drop on audiobook but have yet to read it and I may also own Girl of Fire & Thorns, I need to check...

I am going to look all the other nominations up and get back to you later today :)
