And some reactions...

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily...

Taylor Swift is practically a kid. And he made her cry. I want to kick his ass.

But Beyonce was very, very cool and gracious about all this...

(sorry, should I have put this in the gossip thread?)

I saw that this morning here:
http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/20...

and really felt sick about Kanye. When did he miss out on the manners classes everyone else had to take along the way?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I was watching the show last night, and couldn't BELIEVE his boorishness.
Like anyone cares what Kanye thinks!

Kudos to Beyonce for giving her time to Taylor Swift.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Kanye West Makes Everyone Else At The MTV Video Music Awards Feel Classy

Ha...great, almost Onionish title...

I also like how Katy Perry said something like Kanye's actions were like kicking a kitten.

(By the way, full disclosure, I have learned most of the words to the songs on Taylor Swift's latest record because my sons listen to it a lot.)

message 5: by Lori (new)

Lori Kanye proved he was an ass a loooong time ago. His assholishness continues to grow.

Some people are speculating this was all a set-up so that MTV could get higher ratings.

message 6: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments I'm just waiting for that big fall that will inevitibly crush his humongeous ego... the bigger they are & all. Besides, we have to have giant assholes like him to remind us how much better we all are than that. ;)

message 7: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
One of my students thinks that it was planned, that MTV staged this event to up the "shock factor" of the VMAs. Interesting theory, I like it.

message 8: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) People, people, saying Kanye West is an asshole is redundant. Kanye West = asshole.

message 9: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I think it was planned. No such thing as bad publicity.

message 10: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Kanye West = Bad Publicity

message 11: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (ghostinmarble) I'm leaning toward planned. When was the last time anyone talked about the VMAs the next day?

message 12: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Awww, and I was just working up a good dislike for him.

message 13: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I've disliked him since he got all crazy the first time, what, during 9-11? Or was it the Indian Ocean Tsunami? Katrina? Hell, he's been an ass each time.

message 14: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I kind of like him too, KD.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

A friend of mine sent me a Kanye quote today....it went something like "some people like to write books, but books be so wordy...I'm a proud non-reader of books."

Now that's something to be proud of!!!

message 16: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) My son thinks he has talent. I like him also but what he did was so very wrong.

message 17: by Nuri (last edited Sep 14, 2009 08:43PM) (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments I am really unimpressed by Taylor Swift. I couldn't have sympathy for her if I tried. What Kanye did was unthinkable, but I get the impression he wasn't in his right mind. My favorite out of this debacle is probably Beyonce, but not really. I don't believe in anything Hollywood right now (maybe it's the reading/assigned films for this class I'm taking?). It feels scripted and silly. If anything, I think Taylor might owe Kanye a thank you for all the attention.

Or maybe I'm inclined to sympathize with the "villian"! Or maybe it's because I've just found out now, after he's apologized. I've never been a Kanye fan either, but the media's self-righteous outrage sits poorly with me.

message 18: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I just saw him on Jay Leno. He really seemed to be remorseful.

message 19: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments It is kind of interesting, I must admit, that at a show celebrating rock and roll videos we're all "follow the rules!" On the other hand, MTV is such scripted bullshit, and I wouldn't even necessarily call it "rock and roll", so...I'm not sure what to say. It's 4:32AM. I haven't had my coffee.

(But I like Taylor Swift, and Kanye's first record is great)

message 20: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ok, as some of you know, I have had my misgivings about our current president lately...but apparently he called Kanye a jackass, too, so he can't be all bad.

(Note: I called Kanye a jackass first.:)

First of all... that's EXTREMELY unethical for a reporter to quote someone who said something off the record. Period. ABC's right to apologize to the White House on behalf of the person who tweeted that.

Secondly... I don't particularly care for namecalling. I have no issue with saying something like "Kanye West was acting like a jackass," but "Kanye West is a jackass...." or "He's a douchebag"... no. Not for me.

I mean, don't get me wrong - I do NOT condone what he did. What he did was terribly rude and inconsiderate, and from what I understand, consistent with other behavior/actions. But I really try to be conscious of my words - I mean really - think about it - we are not responsible for Kanye's words or behavior, however much we might disapprove. We are responsible for our own.

And even though he can't take that moment back, he did apologize to Taylor... and also to her mother, as he should have.

message 22: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I hate him!

(Kidding, Heidi, kidding...:)

message 23: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I was not kidding. If you act like a jackass, you are a jackass.

No one is above forgiveness or redemption.

message 25: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Damn it, Heidi! I guess you're right. :(

Ooookaaaaaaaaay I forgive him for being a jackass.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

The MTV Movie Awards had an incident during the summer involving Eminem and Sacha Baron Cohen....there was talk of it being scripted and staged. You never know anymore. MTV could very well be desperate for viewership...they haven't played a music video in years, they haven't played rock n' roll since the nineties....why exactly does anyone even watch MTV in 2009? For 16 & Pregnant?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Couldn't tell you, Stefano. I watch Pop-Up Vidoes on VH-1 sometimes.

message 30: by Matthieu (last edited Sep 15, 2009 02:26PM) (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments Taylor Swift looks like she's rocking a chromosomal abnormality.

Kanye can be a douche, yes, but he's a hell of a lot better than the rest of the human waste at the VMA's.

Besides, we have to have giant assholes like him to remind us how much better we all are than that. ;)

That's rich.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Matt, don't you ever have anything NICE to say?

message 32: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments He is an ass.
It's funny to me that we don't even trust that things like this are real and not scripted because we think all Hollywood types are such fakes. With good reason.

They still have PopUp Videos on VH1? I used to LOVE that show!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sally wrote: "They still have PopUp Videos on VH1? I used to LOVE that show!"

Yep, they're the old ones from back in the day, Sally. :)

message 35: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) They were good.

message 36: by Erika (new)

Erika Rich (erika2976) | 25 comments I agree!! Good for Beyonce!!

Dumb Azz if you would have waited you would have seen that Beyonce got the best award at the end!!

Also what about Lil Mama?? When she jumped on stage with Jay Z and Alicia Keys??!!

I guess there was something in the drinks at the VMAS!!

RA, don't you enjoy that Obama used the same word as you to describe Kanye?

Has anyone else ever noticed that Kanye is Kenya with the a and the e switched?

Sorry, Heidi and RA. My intermittent thread reading/posting is obviously lackadasical. See you in October.

message 42: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments Hee-hee!!
That is funny.
For some reason, the one I laughed the hardest at was after reading all these I'mma let you finish jokes, and one says 'In Soviet Russia, Taylor Swift Interrupts You.'

message 43: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Okay, I have to admit that this one is funny:

Stephen (stephenT) Heidi, are you going to buy that damn yellow hat or not? I'm almost more comfortable with the polar bear.

Howdy James.

How so?

The hat is heavenly, and I doubt it's still available to be purchased. If I could, though, I definitely would give it a try.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to TC James - and all the fun you could ever want. :-).
