I know this is going to be tough. I saw this movie as a kid and now I want to read the book. All I remember is (what I think is) the last scene where the family drives down a deserted road surrounded by trees. They are in a station wagon. There's a green fog/haze all around. They drive past a golden retriever that turns green. This would have been in the late 90s early 00s.

It's Welcome to Dead House
It was two part episode where the family moves to a new town and then realizes something strange is going on, goes to leave and the dog is on the road, they grab him, and in the car they realize he has turned.
There is a green haze all around them.
The episode aired in 1997. I had a really weird memory for shows and was able to check the name pretty quick =)
