Oh, you might fall in love with Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor and Park. It is such a sweet romance. I also didn't find either protagonist annoying.

If you like E&P, then try this one too:

Oh, gosh, and one that a lot of people don't seem to know about: Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. This has plenty of romance, but it's not all about the romance. You could find Taylor annoying, but not extremely. Oh, yeah, and John Green recommended it on his website.

What about Anna and the French Kiss? That was a pretty good YA read :)

What about An..."
Oh, good one! Lola and the Boy Next Door is cute, too :)

David Levithan
~ Love Is the Higher Law is about 9/11 for people who haven't lived through it; these characters are.
* Two Boys Kissing is about, well the two boys of the title, but so much else!
& Wide Awake is about two politically aware boys and the candidate they favor for president.
Jennifer Donnelly writes wonderful historical fiction try:
^ A Northern Light is a story that's been told before, including as movies, but it is very good here.
@ Revolution as in French, but also time travel is an element.
# The Tea Rose I haven't gotten around to reading yet, but is the first of three in a series.
Susan Vaught
% Freaks Like Us Fascinating POV, not saying anything else.
* Big Fat Manifesto IMO characters with issues and problems can be very worth reading.
^ Trigger is a mystery, a boy who seems to have had it made; but recently he shot himself-- why?. He's got TBI, he doesn't know why himself.
