The only thing I could think of for engineering was Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman, Richard Feynman's biograpy is fun, followed by his What Do You Care What Other People Think.

I imagine there were engineers involved with the creation of the World Fair: The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America

For this challenge, I'm thinking about reading The Sand-Reckoner by Gillian Bradshaw, which is another historical fiction novel, this time about Archimedes. He was DEFINITELY an engineer... :)
Other than those... I have some lovely textbooks you could borrow! Reinforced Concrete? Elementary Soil Mechanics? Design of Small Dams? Hydrology? They're pretty dry reading...

I am reading this now and it should work for that! It is a heavy non-fiction, but great!

What!! Hydrology is dry!!! Say it isn't so.

I actually REALLY LOVE my hydrology textbook. Or rather, I love that when I started the checking the prices for my textbooks that semester, I found it online from Barnes and Noble for 80% off... It was only like $20.00. I felt like I was stealing it... legally.
