message 5: by jamako (new)

jamako (jann1k) | 192 comments I read this one earlier in the year, it's a fun little story. I wouldn't count it among my favourite horror books but it's worth a read. Hope you all have fun with it!

I loved this one! Maybe I can squeeze a re-read in...

message 9: by Kelly B (new)

Kelly B (kellybey) | 630 comments I've never read this one! I've had it on my Kindle for a few years, so it being a group read will be a good incentive for me to finally read it.

The cover is the best thing about it.

Haha, well we're all entitled to not liking something right? I just was curious, I think it looks creative in story just as much as the cover but we'll see I guess. This thread may be very lively this month apparently lol

Cassandra Glissadevil Latasha wrote: "@Cynthia- just have fun! Hope you like it & love Grady Hendrix!"

Thanks Latasha! I didn't know if there was ground rules.

message 26: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11980 comments Mod
@Cynthia- just the rules regarding spoilers.

message 27: by Kim (new)

Kim | 148 comments I can join this one! I was able to check out a copy from my library. This has been on my TBR list for a while. I'm so excited!

message 28: by Fred (new)

Fred (fredflego) | 113 comments I finished the book. I ended up enjoying it! I don't understand the group rules so much yet. I'll follow along and I'll wait and see as I don't want to give away any spoilers. So much to share lol I will say that I'm glad I stuck with it. This was my first Grady Hendrix book and I now look forward to reading more from him.

To use spoiler tags- < spoiler > spoiler things here < / spoiler > minus the spaces of course

Latasha wrote: "To use spoiler tags- spoiler things here minus the spaces of course"

Latasha, you explained that so well--it took me forever to learn how to use them, and even then, couldn't "explain" it well to others!

message 31: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11980 comments Mod
Thanks! I was worried I didn’t explain it good.

message 32: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Glissadevil Got my copy. Not sure I understand how to do the spoiler tag thing. I'll comment on general style and terror sans spoiler details until I figure spoilers out, by watching how the other folks do it.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11980 comments Mod
Scroll up a few messages, I explained it.

message 34: by Dylan (new)

Dylan (gravityx) | 1 comments I started reading this (slightly early) as I’m currently hospitalised and getting bored out of my brain. Just finished the first chapter. Liking it so far.

message 35: by jamako (new)

jamako (jann1k) | 192 comments I read Horrorstör earlier this year. The setting was a nice change and Hendrix knows how to play it for some jokes without losing the spookiness of the situation. The book wasn't a stand-out for me but it was entertaining. Hope you'll enjoy it!

message 36: by Kim (new)

Kim | 148 comments I went ahead and started reading on this. So far I love the characters and the little illustrations. The protagonist works retail. I have worked retail most of my life and I can relate. I'm loving this book!

message 37: by Amity Horror (new)

Amity Horror (amityhorror) | 55 comments Loved this book!

message 38: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I | 60 comments Perfectly describes what having depression while working a retail job is like. Love this book! I'd like to reread it, but my brother borrowed my copy almost 2 years ago and I don't think I'm ever going to get it back :(

message 39: by Alastor (new)

Alastor Moopy (zeenia) | 82 comments Sorry for (very minor) spoilers, does anyone else think the situation with Carl was mishandled?

message 40: by M.E. (new)

M.E. | 409 comments I started a little early. This is very entertaining so far.

Just in case anyone missed Melanie's comment above: it is definitely worth googling the Swedish/Norwegian names for things. Some of the meanings are pretty hilarious.

message 41: by Kim (new)

Kim | 148 comments Alastor, to me the situation was definitely mishandled.

message 42: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Glissadevil Less than a hundred pages to go with Randall Boyll's horror novel- Mongster. Then I start Horrorstor. Look forward to the back and forth banter.

message 43: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelunabridged) | 589 comments I'm so excited to start this one. Trying to resist until tomorrow, but I mean... It's basically January now, right? 😂

message 44: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11980 comments Mod
Go for it Rachel! (I started one early too 😝) Hope you enjoy it!

message 45: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl | 5 comments Started reading Horrorstor today and have an overwhelming urge to go to IKEA...

message 46: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelunabridged) | 589 comments I did end up starting it last night, but I only read a couple chapters. It was definitely triggering some latent PTSD I didn't realize I had from my time in retail. 😂

message 47: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Glissadevil Rachel wrote: "I did end up starting it last night, but I only read a couple chapters. It was definitely triggering some latent PTSD I didn't realize I had from my time in retail. 😂"

Buyer's remorse PTSD?

message 48: by Michael (new)

Michael J. (michaeljclarke) | 634 comments I read this in 2016 and look forward to reading your thoughts. I found it to be very creative as well as humorous, with some Lovecraftian themes as the story developed. I gave it a 3 star rating but neglected to post a review. I may just opt to re-read it depending on whether the favorable comments here persuade me to pick it up again.

message 49: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelunabridged) | 589 comments Cynthia wrote: "Buyer's remorse PTSD?"
