He was 57, people. Reminds me to cherish the time we get on this planet because it's not guaranteed.

I don't mean to sound maudlin, but I don't think Swayze got the credit he deserved as a decent actor. And I fucking love Roadhouse.

lifts his coffee cup in salute to Mr. Swayze

Stephen (stephenT) I am so very sorry to hear that. He had suffered so much, and so bravely. To you Mr. Swayze. Huzzah!

RIP Patrick.

Roadhouse was a really good movie, if you haven't seen it you really should.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments My 9th grade physical science teacher went through grade school with him. She said he'd wear leotards to school (because he helped his mom teach dance after school) - the guys never picked on him. Could you imagine that?!! In Texas! Houston, no less. I think that's awesome - he had the respect of the football team and everyone else. I had several schoolmates who took dance at his mom's dance school where he was still teaching on occasion when he had the time. They all revered him very much - I've always thought of him as a dancer first, and then and actor... and when Dirty Dancing came out... WHOOOOOO BOY! :) Nobody puts baby in a corner.

His equestrian center was around the block from my mom's home in Houston.

He was a great guy by any standard. I hope he's getting to dance up a storm in heaven with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and Gregory Hines and Ruth Page and Donald O'Connor and Ruth St. Denis and Sammy Davis, Jr. and Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly because if I were him, that'd be heaven to me. :)

Rest In Peace, Patrick Swayze. Lots of love and every good wish for his family and friends...

Stephen (stephenT) Heidi has reemerged from the cave of the bears! Hail, bear Queen.

message 7: by Lori (new)

Lori I really thought he was going to lick it, even though that is one of the worst cancers. I didn't think too much of him until he got the cancer, and then I read about him and he sounded like such a great great guy, which Heidi just confirmed. I did like him in Ghost, never saw Roadhouse but I keep hearing about it.

message 8: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I saw Roadhouse and yes, I admit the boy in me loved it, I kept wanting him to kick some ass! And he did!

message 9: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I liked him in Next of Kin, too.

message 10: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Yeah, because Next of Kin shows what Cain-tuck-ee'ns will do if'n you mess wid' us.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Outsiders was a really good movie too.

message 12: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I had completely forgotten he was in that! Wow. Blast from the past.

message 13: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I'm surprised no one's mentioned Ghost yet.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Lori did, Heidi. She said she liked him in Ghost.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I stand corrected. Carry on. :)

Books Ring Mah Bell Let's forget about Point Break.

You suppose he's reunited with Farley doing that Chippendales SNL skit?

message 17: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Maybe John Belushi will join in...

message 18: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) No one has details yet on his funeral. I don't know his religion so I can't post an appropriate link to youtube music.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments How could you not like Patrick Swayze?
I thought he was great in Donnie Darko.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I still need to see Donnie Darko.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Stephen wrote: "I don't know his religion so I can't post an appropriate link to youtube music."

Found these quotes from him on his IMDB profile:

"I believe in a higher power. I've studied Eastern philosophies, and I've studied the Koran. We've devalued everything worth believing in. Now we're tearing into religion. A line should be drawn. The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and The Da Vinci Code (2006) borders on that. I was glued to the book, but afterwards I thought, "Oh my Lord, now we're tearing into God and our faith." Are we going to be turning into a reality show, too? I certainly hope not."

"I have a great deal of faith in faith; if you believe something strongly enough, it becomes true for you. I would like to believe that my father is right here with me in this room and that he's my guardian angel, that there's life after death -- because if there isn't, why are we here? I don't believe that just flesh and bones can contain from the point of view of physics this very real recorded energy inside of us. Whether it's true or not, we need to believe it."

Stephen (stephenT) Thank you Heidi.

Stephen (stephenT) Okay, listen to this for the first 1:56 of this link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2iMbT...

Here are what the Latin words mean.

The trumpet, scattering its awful sound
Across the graves of all lands
Summons all before the throne.

When you hear the music you will see there is nothing terrible about it, at all.

For Patrick.

message 25: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments I really love that second quote.
What an awesome guy. I am sure he is doing fine wherever he is.
And I'm sending out some happy-love vibes to his family and friends.
