A place to discuss books with Djinn in them for our 2020 Reading Challenge.

Cat (dodgeremerson) The Golem and the Jinni is pretty good. I read it for a challenge last year or the year before?

Yes, it's wonderful!
I also really loved Alif the Unseen

I feel like you would definitely like it, Amanda.

Leah (flying_monkeys) | 1009 comments I also LOVED The Golem and the Jinni -- but I'm really nervous that the publication of the second book keeps getting pushed back, it's now set for 2021. 🤞

+1 for Alif the Unseen

And I own but haven't read yet The Djinn Falls in Love & Other Stories, so I may read it this year. But I also own and haven't yet read Djinn City, which I have on my challenge planner as the book I'll read for this challenge. Of course that could change.

If anyone's looking for:

YA recs I enjoyed Rebel of the Sands, but yes, it is quite YA-y and there be YA romance.

On the lower age range of YA, I had a lot of fun reading The Amulet of Samarkand mainly because Bartimaeus is so freaking sarcastic and tricksy.

Non-fiction rec I liked but didn't love The Caliph's House: A Year in Casablanca and you can look up photos of the remodeled house which is gorgeous!!

Which is strange because that book was really popular. I checked her Twitter and she does seem to be writing, ha!

I also enjoyed the Samarkand books, though I read them a long time ago.

I need to find something for this category. I loved both Alif the Unseen and The Golem and the Jinni, so much that if I don't find anything suitable I could reread them.

Asaria | 814 comments Recently I've found The Gurkha and the Lord of Tuesday by the author of Djinn City who was mentioned by Leah.

Now there is a question whether any of them will draw me in to actually get through.
