Kay | 48 comments There were a lot of great children's books published this year! Books I loved as a child. Yep, I definitely plan to re-read those. Hah! But I won't include them in the final count. This is the only challenge I plan to tackle this year. My first year with this group and my first year accepting a challenge. Certainly don't want to tax myself too soon! Got to enjoy this thing!

1964 Possibilities:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
A Moveable Feast
Harriet the Spy
The Book of Three
God's Smuggler
Everything That Rises Must Converge: Stories
The Keepers of the House
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Nigger
Arrow of God
Across Five Aprils
Farnham's Freehold
Up the Down Staircase
Hard Rain Falling
A Very Easy Death
Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer
The Secret of Terror Castle
Friday the Rabbi Slept Late
The Pushcart War
Sit, Walk, Stand
Galahad at Blandings
A Right to Die
I Wonder as I Wander: An Autobiographical Journey - discovered that this was not actually published in 1964. Earlier.

Now, to whittle down the list...

Sure is more possibilities in 1964 than 1864, but still has good choices. Enjoy!

Kay | 48 comments Yea, I need to do more research on what was published in 1864...

Kay | 48 comments OK, feeling a need for some lighter reading. Beginning this challenge with Harry Kemelman's Friday the Rabbi Slept Late

Kay | 48 comments Finished Friday the Rabbi Slept Late. Really enjoyed this quick, light mystery.

Kay | 48 comments Read Up the Down Staircase. Fun! Then had to check out the movie from the library. Really enjoyed both. Not much has changed...

I've heard of this, maybe I've seen the movie and just don't remember.

I remember the movie very fondly, but cannot remember if I ever read the book. You do have some good books to choose from.

Kay | 48 comments Finished The Maine Woods by Thoreau. Three canoe journeys into Maine during the 1850s. Interesting depictions of the topography, the Native American culture of that time, tree-felling and lumberjacks. Not my typical reading material but I'm glad I read it.

Sounds interesting. I have only ever read Walden and I know Thoreau's writings go far beyond that.

That does sound interesting.
