Sammu (foreversammu) Hope everyone is doing great this new year! Has anyone started?

message 3: by Abby (new)

Abby I plan on starting it tomorrow

message 4: by Gwen (new)

Gwen (unmagical) | 2 comments Happy new year! I’m going to try to get started with the book by the weekend.

message 5: by Sammu (new)

Sammu (foreversammu) Let me know your thoughts!

message 6: by Abby (new)

Abby I have only read the first chapter so far. It hasn't given a lot of background info, so the story is a little confusing.

message 7: by Athena (new)

Athena (OneReadingNurse) (onereadingnurse) | 18 comments I guess I'm gonna start the book since I'm looking for a next read and buddy read-esque things are fun! Do we have discussion questions or just talking as we go?

message 8: by Sara Marshall (new)

Sara Marshall (immisssaram) | 13 comments I may start too. Just finished up some of the books I've been working on and would love to do a buddy read! Is there a point we need to read to before discussing? Also where is everyone at so I know how much I need to catch up on lol?

message 9: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (ariel-mulvaney) | 19 comments Looks like I'll have to get it again! I got the book a while ago but it got mixed in with some books I decided to donate when I moved. :(

Sara Marshall (immisssaram) | 13 comments Just finished through ch.4 with the Amazon Kindle sample. So far I think it's pretty good, but a little confusing. I had to look up threadwitches and re-read a few parts so they would make better sense. I like where it's going and I'm going to go ahead and grab the full book ($2.99 kindle).

Athena (OneReadingNurse) (onereadingnurse) | 18 comments I am already finding it sad that we need a diagram to understand this at first, its so needlessly confusing in the beginning. Do we have discussion questions or anything to keep an eye out for?

message 12: by Sara Marshall (last edited Jan 13, 2020 09:24PM) (new)

Sara Marshall (immisssaram) | 13 comments I totally agree! If the author would elaborate when she mentioned something it would 100% improve the readers understanding. But I promise as you get further into the book it makes a lot more sense [and is more enjoyable because of it, almost like a little "I did it!" boost]. I think the author is going for a mystery/uncovering style of knowledge like "I wonder if this plays into this, lets read to find out" but it comes off as "great I have no idea what is going on, better read to find out" because she does this with important information the reader needs to know at that moment.
... As for discussion questions, I have no clue. It would be cool if we did though. Also, would love to know how far everyone is!! :D I'm heading into ch.28.

Sara Marshall (immisssaram) | 13 comments Kim for the win!

message 15: by Francette (new)

Francette (foxxyfranny) | 6 comments First few chapters are confusing. I'm reading chapter 15. Good book so far.

Any questions for the discussion.

message 16: by Athena (new)

Athena (OneReadingNurse) (onereadingnurse) | 18 comments it's funny, i picked it up again after a few days and read the first 100 pages or so. I must have been tired the first time. Merik is hilarious, I hope he keeps getting page time!

message 17: by Sara Marshall (new)

Sara Marshall (immisssaram) | 13 comments Finished the book!! I now want to read the next book and I'm kinda surprised by that. I ended up loving the world and all the different witcheries. And Athens your right he is pretty funny!

message 18: by Eve (new)

Eve Messenger (evemessenger) | 1 comments I'm with you, Sarah Marshall. The first few chapters felt like a lot of information and set-up to wade through, but then starting around chapter eight the story took off and never let up. I adored the characters and the magical world.

message 19: by Sara Marshall (new)

Sara Marshall (immisssaram) | 13 comments Eve you are so right! About ch.8 is where the action begins and more substance is introduced. Everything leading up to that is giving you some sort of a background. With that in mind, how far is everyone and has everyone felt the same way about the first 8 chapters lol?

message 20: by Sammu (new)

Sammu (foreversammu) The confusion is rampant. It’s got a great premise. How is everyone feeling so far now? Still struggling? Not even started yet? Almost done?

message 21: by Abby (new)

Abby I have read about the first 7 chapters

message 22: by Francette (new)

Francette (foxxyfranny) | 6 comments Finished the book! Your right Merik is funny. I am ready to read the next book.

message 23: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 9 comments I just finished the book, and it was ok. I agree with everyone that it was confusing at first but got better as it went on. With the whole confusing part at the beginning and then the book kind of leaving you hanging at the end, I don’t think I’ll continue with the series.

message 24: by Athena (new)

Athena (OneReadingNurse) (onereadingnurse) | 18 comments I only got to about page 150 but am off tonight and tomorrow finally, hope to finish. it did pick up

message 25: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Garner | 7 comments hey, I finished the book a few days ago, I agree that the book was going for an aura of mystery but definitely comes off as a confusing mess at times. one of my biggest issues with the book aside from how confusing it can and often is, it feels like the power to tell whoever is lying at any given time AND the ability to see whos tied to who it feels like any struggle;e they face would be completely forced and I felt that. one final thing is that I felt this suffered from is what I call the "spider-man 3" effect of too many antagonists it felt like the story should have been about them hiding their powers from the kingdoms and the blood witch should have been a sequel rather than a subplot that felt forced at times. what did you guys think of there powers and how they chose to use them?

message 26: by Philip (new)

Philip Quense (philipquense) | 20 comments I am a bit late. Going to read this shortly.

message 27: by Abby (new)

Abby I liked the story line. I felt that the author could have expanded on some topics and made a few things clearer, but over all I felt it was a well written book and can't wait to read the next book.

So you liked it enough to want to keep reading? Does it build as the book goes on?

message 29: by Abby (new)

Abby I think it did. By the time I was halfway done I didn't want to put it down.

message 30: by Athena (new)

Athena (OneReadingNurse) (onereadingnurse) | 18 comments it does keep building, I still feel like there are way too many sub plots and characters, and every single antagonist was SO powerful or SO unique at something. I would read the next one but in no hurry to

Good to know. I will give it a try. I found that the first Throne of glass book took a bit for me to get into. Mainly cause I don't think like a 17 yr old teen lol. But once I got into the flow of the book, I really settled in for the long haul.

I will definitely look out for that theme of power. I am juggling multiple stories right now too. Ill start this next.

message 33: by Chelsie (new)

Chelsie (thebookwormgirl23) I thought this book was really great. It starts off slow with a ton of world-building, but then it really picks up! I love how all their stories come together like a puzzle.
