Hi everyone, here's a selection thread for the next book.

Rules for suggestions:

1) Please don't just list books you're planning to read. Give a sentence or two on why you think we should read a book as a book club.

2) If you made a suggestion before, please re-submit it for this time to be included. I won't be going to past suggestion threads, this is a new round.

3) If someone already listed something you like/what you would suggest, you can "vote " for it by adding support. You can add your own reasoning why you think we should read it.

After that, we'll gather up the books that have the most support and put them into a proper poll for the final selection.

As a note for this round: Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters lost by only one vote last time, so I'm going to automatically put it in the poll next time around. I don't want to just automatically select it, since it's possible people have read it since the last suggestion, lost interest, or a new option gains more traction.

So, suggest away!

Ok, I have a suggestion! Starless by Jacqueline Carey has been mentioned on a few lists of books that have positive portrayals of genderfluid characters. I absolutely LOVE her Kushiel's Dart series and the two sequel trilogies. I know that the Kushiel books are fairly explicit in sexual content, and I understand that that kind of thing isn't for everyone, but from the description I don't think that this one is quite as... NSFJG. From the reviews I glanced at, it seems more YA in theme.

I have read Starless, it's excellent! I'd say it's more SFJG's than her Kushiel's Dart & follow up series, but it does have some violence and some sexual content.

Jen W. (piratenami) | 362 comments I was going to suggest The Starless Sea since it just came out and I know we have a lot of fans of the author's last book, The Night Circus, in this group. It might be fun to read together and talk about it.

haha i'm also a fan of the Starless Sea suggestion, since I got it for Christmas and it'll be my next read when I finish up some library books.

Sarah Pace (space1138) | 127 comments Since a bunch of us have read The Calculating Stars already, what about it, or even the sequel The Fated Sky (which hasn't yet had much mention in discussions)?

Kathy Klinich | 180 comments I just read and enjoyed How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse, which takes a few threads from the Sleeping Beauty story and puts them into a space/court intrigue adventure. Think a lot of people would like it.

Megan | 244 comments I will also chime in for the Starless Sea - I'm planning to read it anyway, and the Night Circus is a favorite (as it seems to be for many of us).

Just to put another option out there, I will suggest Alice I Have Been - I love Melanie Benjamin, and I haven't read this one yet - but I think many of us are Alice in Wonderland fans.

I would be interested in that - liked Night Circus

Hi everyone!

Here's the poll for voting. https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

I put everything suggested on it, since there weren't that many suggestions all together and nothing had really rousing agreements.
