I would like to offer my services as a Beta Reader / Reviewer. This is a totally free, no-strings-attached arrangement.
Last time I did this was a few years ago and I was a bit inundated as you can imagine, leading to quite a long queue for people to get their work read. So you may have to exercise some patience with me.
I have a fairly eclectic taste but will not read children's books or romance / chick lit type stuff. I'm a bloke and prefer blokey books; horror, thrillers sci-fi - not really that fussed so long as its a decent story.
In terms of feedback I am very, very kind. I will never tell you that your stuff sucks or to give it up - heard of that type of stuff happening and it's a terrible thing for anyone to do. I'm not a professional editor, but do have a reasonable grasp of English. Do expect my feedback to contain a list of any errors I may have found and more subjective observations that you may feel free to ignore.
So what do I get out of this? Well quite possibly nothing... I am a writer myself and have been about six months away from finishing a book for the past two/three years. I pick it up and put it down endlessly. When it finally happens I will be asking a couple of people to do a Beta read for me (not a formal review). At that point, of course, people are free to ignore or refuse my request. I won't mind, but a bit of quid pro quo would be nice.
So, email any stuff to [email protected] and we shall talk soon - first come first served :)
