Alyson Larimer This book is a great children's lit book because there are many different themes through out the story. The main theme would be friendship because Leslie and Jess go on this adventure together. The theme of friendship is shown by them expanding each others horizons along the way. Jess helps Leslie develop more strength and courage when he asks her to help Janice Avery. Another good example of expanding ones self through friendship is when Jess takes Leslie to church. Freindship is about helping one another expand and find new aspects of oneself. Also i think that this is a great story as many children can relate to a best friend and helping one grow and do things you never would have done on your own. Jess struggles through out the book to find his true identity since his family and peers are pushing him in a different direction then the one he is headed for. Leslie shows Jess that their is more to life and when she passes away, he is able to use the things she has taught him and to carry on without her. This is a great book for young readers because Terebithia is this idealized world and a place to escape for children, which gives readers a way to express their imagination.
