I’m dying for this. Even though it’s emotionally traumatizing. Everything looks just like in the book. This might be worth starting up a Netflix subscription for a month again. Then I can watch The Witcher too. :)

My guess (based purely on intuition) is that they're going to remove some parts of the uh...opening act at least. I hope Lucas is there and not just uh... "Dodge" if you get what I'm saying (I have my keyboard set up for something else and I've lost my brackets and am lazy, so I hope this is cryptic enough not to be a spoiler but obvious enough that folks who've read it know what I mean lol)

I’m not sure how I feel about an audiobook of this one. I feel like you’d miss so much. The illustrations are wonderful. In a dark and grim way.

Do they add scene description to the audio book? On the other hand- I’d love a full length novel.

The only thing I can compare it to is that I had an audiobook for Book Thief which apparently has illustrations. But the illustrated parts were beautifully written and felt seemless in the story.

......shoot I hate horror shows but I loved the series so much....oh dear oh dear oh dear....

If this is on Netflix Europe as well I can save the money for the last volume, which I still haven't read cause it wasn't in my kindle unlimited trial month. XD

I LOVE this comic. One double page spread in particular made me squeal out loud in terror (on a train, I might add)

I just downloaded the audiobook. I forgot that it was a full cast performance. I'm generally kind of iffy on those, but this one has some talent behind it, so fingers crossed! I may or may not (definitely will be) perusing the graphic novels as I listen. :D

So, some links for those of us who don't know what you're talking about and need to look things up. Joe Hill, Heart-Shaped Box, Locke and Key: Guide to the Known Keys, Locke and Key: Omega #1, Locke and Key: Alpha #1, etc. ?

This is based on Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft and subsequent works by Joe Hill

I tried listening to the audiobook for this one.. But I quit after about 15%.

So, it's a full cast dramatization, for those curious. They did add some minimal scene description from an overall "narrator", but mostly it's handled through the dialogue - which is one of my pet peeves. "Oh, let me just streeeeeeeetch... a little further... and reach... the key. There. Now, to open the door..." Ugh. Not a fan.

On top of that, there's music, and sound effects, which I generally dislike in audio as well. And on top of THAT, there's excessive amounts of grunting, and scoffing, and general people noises that are really off-putting.

I could probably have dealt with all of that, except that as a dramatization, they go for the "Oh, you're far away, so you'd be much quieter than the person whose POV we're watching from right now would be" method. So, nearly impossible to hear one second, and then OMG SO LOUD! the next.

At one point, the daughter was talking TO her mom, and the mom was speaking so quietly I could barely make it out, and the daughter is using a regular speaking voice... It was impossible to enjoy when I'm constantly having to backtrack, and having to constantly monitor volume levels so as to not miss stuff or blow out my eardrums.

Disappointing, because I think had they leveled the sound better, it would have been really good on audio.

Just read the comics. They take like 20 minutes each.

Wow I didn't realize it was coming so soon. I just heard about it recently. I absolutely loved the graphic novels last year, so this is great timing.

It starts Today but I found the reviews slightly worrying. Anyone watched it yet?

I intended to watch it, but meanwhile I have 6 or more series on my have-to-watch-if-I-ever-could-be-bothered-to-turn-on-the-TV list and I didn't watch any of them so far, so I'm not sure when I will get to it.

Saw the trailer last night on Netflix. Looks great but I don’t know about horror stuff when I’m by myself.

It’s not super scary. I’m in the middle of episode 4 and I haven’t been scared once. I have laughed a couple times, as it’s funnier than I expected.

I am in episode 3 and so far feeling disappointed. To me it is a dumbed down, family friendly version of the graphic novels. Gone are the horrors, sinister feel, and the visual marvel of how the keys worked.

Interesting that (view spoiler)[They changed the name of the town from Lovecraft to Matheson. At first I thought it was to avoid the Campbell stuff but apparently it was requested by Joe Hill since he wanted to honor another horror writer. (hide spoiler)]

Update: Still feeling the same until episode 6 and I lost interest. Better get back to my SW: Clone Wars rewatch.

Now I'm wondering, I've seen the graphic novels advertised on Amazon but never got round to them. I watched the first two episodes last night and quite enjoyed them so I'll continue (I don't tend to read things after I've seen a TV or film adaptation first anyway so I'll never be disappointed by comparison)

I just finished Episode 5 last night. As usual, I think the original form is better, but besides little nitpicks here and there, they are doing a good job of telling the story. I think it helps that Joe Hill was one of the writers for the show as well.

Been slowly going through it … Pretty meh.

I don't know the original. But I'm about sick to death of all this HS plus magic/supernatural stuff. Very tired genre.

Nothing really all that special in it so far.

I agree with Silvana. It doesn’t feel anywhere near as dark as the books. I’m only a couple episodes in and finding it pretty easy to tune out even though I think it’s mostly well done. But I was a huge fan of the books so
Maybe it was inevitable.

We started it tonight and so far I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's been a while since I read any of the books, and I never finished the series so I don't have much to compare to. The show is more humorous with occasional moments of darkness versus actually being horror or anything like that, but that's more my speed anyway.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that pretty much every actor looks like a more famous actor? The weirdest is that the older brother reminds me of Peter in the most recent Narnia movies (weird because of the story parallels).

The youngest Locke reminds me of a more shrill version of Will Robinson from the new Lost in Space.

Hah, I can see the resemblance! Honestly, the kid is like a generic version of every awkward, nerdy, lonely youngest brother/little boy in cinema - I think it's the haircut.
