Well, this is awkward. I don't like Alix's friends at all. Their questions of Emira at dinner were so out of line. A LOT is making sense now.

I've been sad for Briar and how chapter 17 ends confirms for me that Alix isn't the mom she would like to appear to be. And Peter is so quiet through all of this. There is such a weird dynamic in this family.

I wonder how much more to the story there is between Kelley and Alix?

The whole Thanksgiving dinner is awkward and uncomfortable. Obviously, for Alix, this is primarily because of Kelley's presence. I'm surprised that Kelley didn't just leave when he and Alix saw each other on the doorstep. He must have known he would be upsetting the apple-cart.

I'm not sure what problem Alix's friends have with Emira. Would this have been made worse by Kelley being there or not? I don't think so.

Peter didn't seem aware that there was something bothering Briar either.
