No score on those last guesses.

I still don't understand the fog about dates. Unless there was something in my original statement which was too 'coy' and misleading.

Did I say something vague like, 'it got a lot of attention at Oscar-time'? Okay that's bad wording on my part --I apologize--but please don't infer that I'm describing a movie which was released in theaters in March following the year of its official release year.

As a general rule, if I mention the Oscars I'm almost guaranteed to be referring to the ceremony and the awards night honoring films of the previous year. If I'm talking about Springtime I'll just use common words like 'Spring' or 'April', etc.

I think there was one time in this quiz when I deliberately mislead with a clue; just for chuckles. But I haven't done it since. It's too much effort, and its also lowly. I might not be forthcoming with a clue. but I won't use ever use 'tricky' or 'duplicitous' language.

message 1402: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3456 comments I never said you misled us. It's just that that the Oscars can be miseading by their dates. The Best Picture winner of 1965 (Sound of Music) was presented at the awards in 1966. I wanted to make sure those were the nominees you were referring to, and not the nominees of 1964, which were presented in 1965. If you give us clues, we need to be on the same page in what we understand. That is all I meant.

Since Jill will be back tomorrow, perhaps it's a good idea for me not to make anymore guesses until she can join in.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments I'm back. I knew a couple of the ones you got, Betsy. But I thought that Curzon was in Young and Innocent as the man with the facial tic or at least that is the film that would have given me an immediate clue.. I also knew Esther Dale and Ken Curtis.. Fantastic job, Betsy.

Who are we left with that has not been answered yet?

message 1405: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (last edited Aug 29, 2020 06:46PM) (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Oy. Curzon was the man with the facial tic as well as everything else I mentioned.

Ken Curtis would have been easy points for either of you sluggers. I had no idea he went into TV acting. Figured him for just another one of those endlessly crooning Welsh tenors in 'Rio Grande'.

Knowing Esther Dale, now that is a feat.

Currently only ONE challenge still extant. #116 I believe.

How about D'arcy Corrigan, the slack-jawed yokel (lead villager) from 'Bride of Frankenstein', Jill? Would you have pegged him?

message 1407: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments No I don't think I would have.

message 1408: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments I am going to bed at this point. Just drove 300+ miles today and I am pooped but I had to look in on my pals to see what was going on. I will have to do some research on #116 since he doesn't look particularly familiar. But Betsy may nail him before I get back on tomorrow.

message 1409: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3456 comments Glad you're back, Jill. Hope you enjoyed yourself. When you get some rest, give #116 a look please. I haven't done well on him.

message 1410: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments My first idiotic guess on #116. Basil Henson?

false

message 1412: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3456 comments I considered him too; heck, I've considered every British male between 19 and 89!!

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
It's bizarrely remiss of you both. He's hidden right in plain sight. Look at those eyebrows. Plus the 1965 Oscars. The film in question was nominated for five; won three. He is listed fifth in the cast.

Not sure what else I can say without making it a freebie/handout.

Alright: he's been in at least one Oliver Reed movie.

I'm going to review the weekend's guesses right now, to make sure I have not missed any posts.

Betsy | 3456 comments Roland Curram or Richard Bidlake - #116?

Sorry, am not feeling too good.

Is there a typo there? A misspelling? Bad internet connection?

Please check over your answer and resubmit

message 1416: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3456 comments Have corrected above.

Bravo.

Yes! Roland Curram it is! Winning answer!

He is Oscar designee, Julie Christie's only good-guy lover in 1965's 'Darling'.

You were so close all along! I don't know who Roland Occam is.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments A very popular tv star too.

message 1426: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments On #121 I was going to guess George Lazenby but he is not Canadian.

Can I ask a question about him? Did he play in British or American films?

message 1427: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments #122 - Purnell Pratt?

The most notable films in which the Canadian above appears, were produced in North America.

Aye, George Lazenby hails from the opposite side of the globe. I'm surprised no one has ventured to guess one of my favorite actors who bears close resemblance --Fritz Weaver. Ole Fritz might have even have been Canadian, I frankly don't recall.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
I definitely did not know any other Jack Warner besides the famed studio moghul. Learnt sumptin' new!

message 1434: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3456 comments Fritz Weaver is an Amercan. I once saw him in NYC. He has a very distinctive look.

#121 looks very familiar. I'm sure I've seen him before.

message 1435: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments Me too, Betsy but I just can't come up with a name or a film in which he might have appeared. I am looking through Canadian films since Feliks said his films were produced in North America, and, of course that includes Canada.

#122 looks like he might be playing a hotel front desk man based on the background but that could be in any film.

message 1436: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Clues: #121, the Canadian gentleman had his heyday in the '70s and can boast of appearances in not just one but two pioneering, groundbreaking horror films.

#122 is pictured as a hotel clerk but it's just one of his many, many roles. I don't know why but he seems to have been favored by directors and producers when they cast many 'heart-warming' type of films. Think: adaptations of American classic fiction novels.

Yes! Nifty win on that challenge. Whew. I was expecting it to last a while.

The pic above is from 'Satan Met a Lady'. But he's also in 'Adventures of Tom Sawyer', 'Adventures of Huck Finn', 'Little Women' (I think?). Anyway, all that kind of movie.

200 titles! Amazing filmography.

Dab score from the Jillster.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3878 comments We have #121 and #124 left, correct? That guy from Canada is driving me crazy.......the face is looking more and more familiar. He certainly has greasy skin!!!!

I think Betsy will knock off #124 pretty quickly but I think she is also stumped on Canada. No more clues on him...........I want to wait before you add anymore information. I'm determined to guess him with what you already shared. Unless Betsy wants a little more info.
