Betsy | 3455 comments I can see why plus he was in several Corman films.

message 1702: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments BTW, it doesn't mention if #140 is American or British so can we assume he is neither?

message 1703: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
That's correct

message 1704: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments #140 - Pedro Armendáriz?

message 1705: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
non

message 1706: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments #140 - (Chaim) Topol?

message 1707: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Topol from 'Fiddler on the Roof'? Good guess but no.

I like that actor and I also like another one similar: Theodore Bikel

message 1708: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments #138 - Leslie Bradley?

message 1709: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments He was a Corman man but I'm not sure about that one.

message 1710: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments Me neither but who knows? 😉

message 1711: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Maybe I should scrap these last two candidates and bring in two others. Maybe they're not very apt. If neither of you are horror fans it cant be much fun trying to guess this Englishman. And the swarthy gentleman is similarly not well-known.

message 1712: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments Perhaps additional photos or clues would help narrow things down.

message 1713: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Agreed.

message 1714: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Okay. The swarthy gentleman is a Spaniard and appeared in a long running western serial.

The rotund Englishman ...one of his Hammer roles was in a Vincent Price film based directly on Edgar Allan Poe story.

message 1715: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments #138 guess - Derek Francis?

message 1716: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Yes! #138 is indeed he. Good!

message 1717: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Good job, Betsy!!!!

message 1718: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Re: Spanish actor. By serial, do you mean movie serials or tv serials?

message 1719: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
He was well-known primarily for a western movie serial but was a prolific actor who also appeared in TV westerns as well.

message 1720: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments #140 guess - George J. Lewis?

message 1721: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Lewis was in the Zorro films, so you may be right, Betsy.

message 1722: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments He was Don Alejandro, Diego's father. Loved that series!

message 1723: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
a swing and a miss!

message 1724: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Loved the theme song

"This bold renegade carves a Z with his blade,
A Z that stands for Zorro."

message 1725: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments I liked the theme too. I read the book that started it all.

message 1726: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments One more guess for #140 - Duncan Renaldo?

message 1727: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
that's a very educated guess. but nope

message 1728: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments #140 - Martin Garralaga?

message 1729: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
A winnah! Yes! Garralaga is 'Pancho' in one of the early 'Cisco Kid' western serials.

message 1730: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments Glad those 140 are cleared away.

message 1731: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Film trivia mavens!

message 1732: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments When you said Duncan Renaldo, I thought of the Cisco Kid tv series but never thought about the film series. Sometimes I am such a dope!!!

message 1733: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Feliks wrote: "Film trivia mavens!"

We haven't done too badly and some of those quizzos were really tough.

message 1734: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
'Maven' is a phrase coined by Shakespeare, I believe. Not a slur.

Merely indicates a certain kind of experience and 'wherewithal' ...or 'facility' in some area or field; (often female in nature, but that's just by chance).

That's how I use it, anyway.

message 1735: by Jill (last edited Oct 07, 2020 12:00AM) (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Maven is also Yiddish for a learned person. I use it all the time.
Ready for some new pictures to prove that we live up to your compliment and are not yutzi

message 1737: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Danny Kaye!!!

message 1738: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
I miss Danny Kaye for sure. Its not as nice a world without guys like that in it.

message 1739: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments He certainly had a way with words.....and at a breakneck speed.

message 1740: by Betsy (last edited Oct 10, 2020 12:30AM) (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments Feliks, if you have decided to discontinue the Photo Quiz, would you please let us know? I think we deserve that consideration. Thanks.

message 1741: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
I'm not generally known for discourtesy. Certainly I would let you know.

Just a little busy, that's all.

message 1742: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments That's fine, but it's nice to know that. Thanks.

message 1743: by Feliks, Co-Moderator (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) | 3596 comments Mod
Update: yea I need a bit of away-time from quizzo as my workdays right now are too frenzied and I can't focus. The leisure time I have available, I spend proofing and editing my latest writing project which has a big deadline coming up so I must place this on 'hold' for a while and come back to it later!

message 1744: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments What type of writing are you doing, Feliks?

message 1745: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Since the rules do not prohibit it and Feliks seems to have disappeared, I am putting up a challenge. Mine is not as hard as his were.

American actress

message 1746: by Betsy (last edited Nov 11, 2020 07:15AM) (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments Good one. I know I have seen her, but.... She's in one of those ingenue parts, a young romance type I think. Will have to work on this. Got any ideas, Clarabelle?

message 1747: by ClaraBelle (new)

ClaraBelle (elsiecorriedale) | 9 comments Betsy wrote: "Good one. I know I have seen her, but.... She's American?"

Yes she looks familiar to me too but I’m not sure!

message 1748: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments You all know her....her era of highest popularity was in the 1930s. with one particularly great performance in a classic film.

message 1749: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3455 comments Jill, was her big film actually in the 30s?

message 1750: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Yes and she is known for her role in it.
