Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments I can well imagine with a name of "~ Gaildis, of the Elves ~" that you would be immersed in fantasy series. :)

message 9: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Lol! Not really. I'm doing a team challenge in another group. Our team is named the Elves of Darkness. In an act of team spirit and solidarity, we chose elf names and changed our avatars. :) I do like some fantasy though.

message 10: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments LOL! Well that just proves that you can't tell a book (or person in this case) by the title. :)

message 11: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Oddly enough, all the ones I started with are in the sci-fi / fantasy realm. lol

message 12: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I hope I can get to all the ones I have posted. That's a lot of books! I still have so many others I'd like to finish and some I want to start. I added Unwind as a series to start. I'm assuming I'll like it and want to finish the series, because so many GR friends of mine have loved it and told me I will too.

message 13: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments I was cringing when I wrote that addons don't count, because I'll be reading Fairest as soon as it comes out. It's 256 pages and not a short story like many of the addons. *sigh* It's tough making up rules I'd like to break.

You might want to check out the rulings regarding series with future publications, as it may affect your strategy of when you'll read some of your series (Lunar Chronicles, The Passage).

message 14: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I just saw that! Thanks! I was thinking about that because so many of my series have books coming out this year. I may read Cress in January so that it counts for points and is done before Fairest comes out. Since Fairest isn't technically part of the series, my series would be complete and I can read Winter the end of the year without pressure. I can't do that with The Passage because I've already read the first two. I'm just waiting for the last book.

If add-ons were allowed, I would have added The Dark Tower series too. I have read the whole series except for The Wind Through the Keyhole, which is 322 pages (and a GR Choice Award winner!), so also a full book. I still plan to read it, but didn't add it here since it wouldn't count towards anything. It is hard to make those decisions, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

message 15: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments The Passage just has two books currently, doesn't it? You'll have to wait until the third comes out because two book series don't count in the challenge.

message 16: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Right. I'm just waiting for the third book to come out.

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I like how you've laid out your series - what you've already read and which remain.

message 18: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Thanks!

Good plan!

message 20: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Man...I am just creeping through this! I keep starting more series than I'm finishing! I'll have to work on my strategy....

message 21: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Ha ha! I'm adding more series than I'm reading too. And for the last two I only have 25 more books to read to slay them. Obviously I have no strategy :) When you find one that works, let me know!

message 22: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Seems to be a byproduct of any challenge. To do the opposite of what you set out to accomplish! I have killed six and added nine but I am determined to start offing more than I add - soon.

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Cherie wrote: "Seems to be a byproduct of any challenge. "

I agree. I have loads of chunksters left over from last year still to read. I'm guessing my kindle will be full of series books next year. I do like finding new series though especially when there are a few already published that you can get stuck in to. But I need to concentrate on killing some now.

message 24: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments 25, jaxnsmom! Yikes. My only strategy is to try to at least kill one series, so I can kill this level and continue creeping my way through the next level. I hope to kill off at least a couple series slowly.

Cherie - I've added four series and only killed off 1.

Sarah - Yes, fortunately my series weren't super new, so I can continue with the series without waiting for publication.

I finally started Dust, which will kill off a series and a level for me. Finally!!

message 25: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I've finished my first level!! Yay! *\o/*

Sarah | 18550 comments Did you like Dust?

message 31: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited May 12, 2015 04:59AM) (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I did! I thought it was the best of the trilogy. I liked how it brought the first two books together and how it progressed.

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I agree about it bringing the two books together. I still think the first one is my favourite.

message 33: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I had more difficulty with the first book because I wasn't used to the writing style. I read the the first wool book before picking up the omnibus. So, I thought the book ended with a death, which was strange and disappointing to me. It took a while for me to get used to main characters being killed off. lol Thought it was a really good series though.

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes it was a good series. have you read any of his other books?

message 35: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments No, this was my first by Hugh Howey. I'd read more by him though. Have you read anything else by him? Would you recommend anything?

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments No I haven't. I do own the Sand Omnibus but haven't got to it yet.

message 37: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I have that one on my TBR too. :)

message 38: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Finally came up with a mini-plan! Only 3 more Mercy Thompson books and I can kill off level 2. Reading River Marked (#6 of 8) now! :)

message 39: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments Sounds like a good plan to me. :) I have the first book in that series. One of these days (or levels perhaps) I'll be able to start the series.

message 40: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I'm hoping to finish up the Mercy series in July. :)

message 41: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Level 2 completed!! :D

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments Don't forget to request your badge in the thread for that purpose.

message 43: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Oh yes! Thank you for the reminder.

message 44: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments I could have easily just posted your badge, but if I don't point everyone over to the request thread, then I'm having to search through all the threads to make sure badges get awarded. Congrats on completing level 2.

message 45: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments I completely understand! Thanks. :)

message 46: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Way to go, Kristie!

message 47: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Thanks, Cherie!

message 48: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Officially started level 3! Hoping to wrap up The Heroes of Olympus, then Graveling series. I'm not sure where I'm going after that. I have about 4 more series that I really want to finish off.

message 49: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59948 comments You're doing great - one book at a time, or two or three. :)

message 50: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19180 comments Haha. Thanks. :)
