I am a huge Nolan fan, but does his film making have the sense of humor for Ready Player One?How about the Russo brothers? Directed Captian America 2 so they have the action chops, but also a bunch of Arrested Development and a lot of Community, awkward comedy is in their genes.
This is probably a long shot but hope springs eternal.
