1. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) - I feel I'm gonna read more of this serie even if it was little bit annoying

2. Missing Person - latest Nobel winner, pretty good (and short) kind of interested trying his other work too

3. The Night Circus - little bit roller coaster, slow start, amazing middle part and let down the end. I might reread soon though, loved all those magic bits and when Mr Norrell waiting for reread round, this is perfect couple

4. Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams: Short Stories, Prose and Diary Excerpts - much better than Bell Jar.. very interesting diary bits too

5. Murder on the Orient Express - the second time, still didn't find all those classic parts

6. The Book of Strange New Things - religious bullshit

7. A Bear Called Paddington (Paddington Bear #1) - quite lovely and the most of all, easy read

8. Contact - this was hard, I didn't like the movie much and the book didn't work much better even if it was different. His writing is very.. hard to read

9. Dead Man's Folly (Hercule Poirot #31) - Agatha <3

10. If I Stay (If I Stay #1) - I liked that it lasted only a day but of course she stayed, I wonder if I liked it better if I didn't know about sequal

11. The Dovekeepers - would prefer that every woman should have own voice and something else in their lives than just love and religion

12. Our Living Multiverse: A Book of Genesis in 0+7 Chapters - quite challenging story from the very beginning

13. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter #6) - finally next book this reread serie. Still good

14. The Silkworm (Cormoran Strike #2) - Rowling still has amazing ability write interesting stories if only she would write something nicer

15. Temppelin hämärästä matsurin vilinään : nojatuolimatka Japanin kulttuurihistoriaan - more historical than cultural story from Japan, quite bloody history have to say

16. Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty - poetry for change, I needed some quick read but this was lovely, quite teensy but good

17. Resident Evil - Marhawa Desire tom 5 (Biohazard Marhawa Desire #5) - the end of zombies, or is it not. Apperently story continues on next game which I'm not gonna play

18. Future Diary, Volume 6 (Mirai Nikki #6) - it was too long for last book I almost forgot what happened before and what I liked this serie and this book not helped much. Well, at least six more book to go

19. Kolme porttia - coming age story in China

20. An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth - pretty interesting story, motivation and little bit depressing

21. Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse #2)- much better than I remembered and I kind of like how different it is than show

22. Future Diary, Volume 7 (Future Diary #7) - still kind of hard to get familiar the story, maybe I should have reread from the beginning

23. Why Didn't They Ask Evans? - I almost forget my montly Agatha, this was very Nancy Drew and I love it. She feels much more relaxed when she skip Poirot and Marple

24. Lullabies - another poerty. Maybe little bit too much love here, maybe there would have use some other things but all you need is love.

28. Three Act Tragedy (Hercule Poirot #11) - nice action for Poirot book

29. Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse #3) - weird.. story is different than show and this time it was worse I guess. Watching last season tv show is not helping

42. The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side (Miss Marple #9) - too little Marple but nice story

Reija | 307 comments 2ND QUARTER CHALLENGE: SHARON'S SPRING CHALLENGE
Duration: April 1 - June 30, 2015

msg 80
SPRING

1. Spring Ahead! The phrase "Spring forward, Fall back" helps people remember how Daylight Saving Time affects their clocks. At 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, we set our clocks forward one hour ahead of Standard Time. Read a book about time travel.
The Shining Girls

2. Spring into action - to suddenly begin moving or doing something. Read a book where a character makes an impetuous decision.

3. Spring is a Season! Spring is one of the four conventional temperate seasons following winter and preceding summer. There are various technical definitions of spring, but local usage of the term varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. When it is spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it will be autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Read a book that takes place in the Spring.
Chocolat by Joanne Harris

4. A spring is a natural source of water – read a book with water on the cover or that takes place on the water.

5. Spring, a mechanical device that stores energy. Read a steampunk book - Steampunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction, usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." It includes fiction with science fiction, fantasy or horror themes. Most steampunk books have mechanical devices in them.

6. Spring Cleaning. Spring cleaning is the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house in the springtime. The practice of spring cleaning is especially prevalent in climates with a cold winter. The most common usage of spring cleaning refers to the yearly act of cleaning a house from top to bottom which would take place in the first warm days of the year typically in spring, hence the name. However it has also come to be synonymous with any kind of heavy duty cleaning or organizing enterprise. A person who gets their affairs in order before an audit or inspection could be said to be doing some spring cleaning. Read a book that has been on your TBR list the longest.

7. Spring Break is a vacation period in early spring at universities and schools in various countries in the northern hemisphere. Read a book that takes place at a college or during spring break.
The Secret History

8. Spring goes in like a lion and out like a lamb. With March being such a changeable month, in which we can see warm spring-like temperatures or late-season snowstorms, you can understand how this saying might hold true in some instances. We can only hope that if March starts off cold and stormy it will end warm and sunny, but the key word is hope. Read a book where weather plays an important part to the plot.
All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris
Hurricane Katherina plays role (missing people)

9. She’s/He’s no Spring Chicken. New England chicken farmers discovered that chickens born in the Spring bought better prices, rather than old birds that had gone through the winter etc. Sometimes farmers tried to sell the old birds as a new spring born chicken. Smart buyers often complained that a tough fowl was "no spring chicken" and so the term now is used to represent birds (and even people) past their plump and tender years. Read an old favorite or a book you have been putting off reading.
Breaking away by Anna Gavalda

10. Hope Springs Eternal is from a poem An Essay on Man by Alexander Pope – people always hope for the best, even in the face of adversity. Will continue to hope even though they have evidence that things cannot possible turn out the way they want. Read a book of poetry or a book about a poet.
Elämäni, kuolemani ja kohtaloni: kootut runot by Edith Södergran

11. Spring to mind - to appear suddenly or immediately in your thoughts. Read a book that was released in 2015 or the newest book on your TBR list.
Life, only better by Anna Gavalda

12. Spring in his step If you walk with or have a spring in your step, you walk energetically in a way that shows you are feeling happy and confident. Read a book that has a character who exhibits these characteristics or an action genre book.

7/7 **DONE

76. Like Mother, Like Daughter (Gilmore Girls #1) - more family version of Gilmore Girls (if that is even possible) but still.. I love girls and this wasn't that bad, maybe it could have took little bit more off script

77. A Caribbean Mystery (Miss Marple #10) - why miss Maprle has to be so old.. but scenery was great, Caribbean seemed pretty lovely even with murders

78. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce #1) - quickly reread the first Flavia, liked it more than the first round

79. Ihana meri - reread (seeing theme here) ya anorexia story, liked it more than before. I hope I will like her other books more now too, but I don't think so

80. Rosan Talo - chick lit, her first novel where were so many ideas she has used over and over later

81. Kuolema ei ole lasten leikkiä (Flavia de Luce #2) - it took forever to start the story and reading same time The little friend really doesn't help because there has been so many same themes, even names and same situations, that this feels very weak. Too bad.

82. Nenä kirjaan, Lotta - everything little bit too smootly, not so funny anymore

83. Näkymätön lapsi - Tove at her best

84. It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want To Be - marketing stuff, some good points

85. Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland #2) - this was so great! so much better than the first part

86. The Little Friend - better than Secret history, cannnot wait to start next Tartt

87. Kuin lumottuna (Nemi albums #30) - Nemi rocks

88. The Secret Adversary (Tommy and Tuppence Series #1) - oh, I didn't believe I could miss Poirot but I really did. This was such a mess.

92. Modesty Blaise (Modesty Blaise, #1) - something good for change. I love Modesty

93. 30-Second Theories: The 50 Most Thought-provoking Theories in Science, Each Explained in Half a Minute - pretty nice even though many times even 60 seconds theory would be better, but good introduction espesially if they would be better reading list

94. Lock In (Lock In #1) - I bet this would have been better if I could have imagine robots look different, it was weird solving murder mystery with r2d2

95. Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse #11) - quite good Sookie, only two books to go, I wonder what will happen to Sookie in the end

96. Elämäni, kuolemani ja kohtaloni: kootut runot - I thought I would like this more, older ones were more my style

Reija | 307 comments THIRD QUARTER CHALLENGE: CLEAR THE SHELVES
Duration: July 1 - September 30, 2015

msg 39

As we move into the second half of the year, it's time to clear our shelves! Many of us (myself included) have shelves full of books that we haven't read. In my case I buy cheap books at secondhand stores or yard sales so my entire top shelf of my bookcase is full of unread books. Others don't buy books, but have to-read lists that are getting out of control.

Either way, pick a goal and try to clear those many books off your shelves!

Feel free to make this your own - you can add extra requirements, like using a random number generator to select books like our randomizer challenge. You could limit the challenge to books you actually own, or tackle the books that have been on your to-read list the longest.

114. Joyland - pretty good King

115. I, Lucifer (Modesty Blaise #3) - good Modesty with bonus all those travelling miles

116. I Love You, You Idiot - so close tv script that it almost bores me

117. And Then There Were None - what is wrong with me and Agatha's classics, those just not work. And anniversary weekend of Utöja is not great weekend to read this

118. Go Set a Watchman (To Kill a Mockingbird) - little bit preechy but at least no lawsuits going on

119. Speak - too many levels and story lines which not come together

120. A Taste for Death (Modesty Blaise #4) - and we met Diana

121. Breakfast at Tiffany's: The Official 50th Anniversary Companion - lovely movie companion

122. Takaa-ajo vuorilla (Nummelan ponitalli, #83) - finally caught the horse or if he..

123. Asioita jotka saavat sydämen lyömään nopeammin - still amazing

124. My Heart and Other Black Holes - teenage couple made suicide pack

125. Emotionally Weird - WHAT. too weird and the most sleepy book ever, I fell asleep like every time I tried to read this

126. Casino Royale (James Bond (Original Series) #1) - booooring

127. Huipulta Huipulle - mount Everest and self-help motivation is same book

128. Notes from My Travels: Visits with Refugees in Africa, Cambodia, Pakistan and Ecuador - rereading this for travelling challenge, still good eye opener

129. Dear Stranger: Letters on the Subject of Happiness - some good, some not so

130. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared - boring

131. Another Day (Every Day #2) - just f*cking stupid

132. The Girl in the Spider's Web (Millennium Trilogy #4) - ok book, not sure if he needed to bring Millennium to this, the story would probably work fine by its own

133. Urheilijan taivas + helvetti - punch of sports stories, little bit too different, so good, some not so interesting

134. Case Histories (Jackson Brodie #1) - after totally amazing the first chapter there were too many story lines for my taste but ok

135. Parker Pyne Investigates (Ariadne Oliver #1) - pretty nice, Parker Pyne was intersting charapter, not so murder stuff than usually with Agatha

136. By the Pricking of My Thumbs (Tommy and Tuppence #4) - really good, quite sad murder mystery

137. The Girl on the Train - I really had force myself to finish this, couldn't care less of any characters

138. Millaista on olla eläin? - really good book about how animals see life (insticts, feelings etc) not so different from us at all

139. As Red as Blood (Lumikki Andersson #1) - teenage girl kicks ass Russian mafia

140. A Wild Sheep Chase (The Rat #3) - sometimes works.. and sheeps after all..

141. The Other Side of Summer (Gilmore Girls #4) - not work.. if you write just Rory's side, you should then tell something outside the tv script

142. One Good Turn (Jackson Brodie #2) - little bit too many characters but quite interesting

143. Ennen kuin kaikki muuttuu - short story collections, some pretty good

144. While the Light Lasts - Agatha's short story collection, some I read before

145. Trainspotting (Mark Renton #2) - third time (?) charm.. not liking really

146. The Miniaturist - I hate historical fiction

147. Armon aika - rereading before second part, still not amazing

148. Jatkoaika - mabye I should give up with this writer, chick-lit is not my genre

149. When Will There Be Good News? (Jackson Brodie #3) - really good Brodie, and very nice story line not so typical crime story line (in writing wise)

150. Sekaisin LOVEsta - like school project, you could have try more

151. Habaa - Baba's training ideas

152. Started Early, Took My Dog (Jackson Brodie #4) - pretty good part of serie

153. Please Look After Mom - really beautiful but sad

154. The Time Traveler's Wife - third time charm, it was getting better this time

155. Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii (Mr. Monk #2) - pretty good, mostly fun

156. Kielletyn laakson tarinat ja muita klassikoita - great Barks story and Don Rosas follow ups

157. The Thing About Jellyfish - jellyfishes were fine but other wise quite boring but short

158. Susanin vaikutus - how much it sucks when your favorite writer does not impress you, maybe I should reread earlier book to see if I was wrong

159. Death Comes As the End - I have finished some time ago but it keeps coming my bookshelf.. well, even Agatha cannot make historic fiction interesting but murder mystery was fine

160. Kulmikkaiden munien jäljillä ja muita klassikoita - really good Barks and Don Rosa book

161. Nemesis (Miss Marple #12) - pretty eerie and beautiful

162. The Sleeper and the Spindle - retelling Sleeping beauty with twist, didn't like much about graphics

163. Kehonpainoharjoittelu - some bodyweight training tips, pretty good

164. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory - too much things outside dieing business

165. Consider Phlebas (Culture #1) - do I really like this serie or was this book just so boring

166. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - interesting story line but could we get science book just without history stuff.. well, maybe there were reasons why those are included but it made it pretty boring sometimes

170. Life after life - even better than the first round. Absolutely amazing

171. The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness - octopus stuff was interesting but imo there was too much stuff about writer's life. How about science book about just pure science

173. Not the End of the World - little bit weird short story collection of Kate Atkinson (which I forgot her complete work list)

174. Ready Player One - it works like goood game, just one more time

176. Seven Brief Lessons on Physics - pretty good

177. Nemi - vastatuuleen (#31) - sparkling and good, little bit light in the dark

178. We Were Liars - really beautiful and haunting writing but plot was totally awful

Reija | 307 comments ADVENT CALENDAR CHALLENGE
Duration: December 1 - December 31, 2015

Many countries around the world use advent calendars or Christmas calendars to celebrate the month of December. For some people, the calendar has religious significance, but for others it's a secular, non-religious tradition.

For this challenge, there are two options:

A) Starting on Dec. 1 and ending on Dec. 24, read a short story (or a poem!) every day. Use stories or poems from collections, magazines, or the internet - there's lot of good short fiction available for free from many publishers.

B) Starting on Dec. 1: Split a novel into 24 chunks and portion your reading so that you read the last chunk on Dec. 24. (Ideally the novel has 24 chapters to start with! But as long as you can manage to count out even-sized* chunks, it'll work.)

* Most calendars provide a bigger treat for Dec 24.

Any novel or bunch of stories will work - but seasonal themes like winter, kindness, family, friendship, gift-giving, etc will definitely work well with the whole spirit of the season.

If you'd rather keep reading past the 24th, you're welcome to try for the whole month!

179. Wool Omnibus (Silo #1) - pretty typical dystopia with claustrophia feeling

180. Rain: A Natural and Cultural History - would be nicer with more natural and less cultural history because of rain could actually be interesting

181. Sleeping Murder (Miss Marple #13) - goodbye Marple, I will miss you

182. The City of Woven Streets - little bit weird

183. The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) - and here we go again..

184. Hiroshima - survavior stories

185. Foundation (Foundation Universe) - talking, political sci-fi classic. And boring

186. Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances - some good some I didn't quite get

187. A God in Ruins - pretty good revisited Life after life world

188. Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike #3) - creepy, awful and lovely writing. I just don't like that much about crime fiction

189. The Bazaar of Bad Dreams: Stories - some creepy and some pretty wonderful short stories

190. I Am Half-Sick of Shadows (Flavia de Luce #4) - Christmas story
