Melodi | booksandchicks (booksandchicks) | 34 comments I have a dear friend that just moved to Alaska. I'd love to send her a book or two about Alaska and where she lives. Any suggestions? Looking for historical fiction or non fiction. Thanks!

Diane S ☔ The Snow Childa mix of history and fable. The author owns a bookstore in Anchorage I believe.

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) | 585 comments I really enjoyed Selkie Dreams by Kristin Gleeson. It's mostly set in Alaska, from the perspective of a 19th-century Irish immigrant.

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) | 585 comments Actually, if you don't mind going back a good long ways, Susan Harrison's Mother Earth Father Sky is set in prehistoric Alaska. It's lovely, spare, and haunting. The whole series is available on Kindle for $9.99. Search for "Ivory Carver Trilogy."

Eileen Iciek | 462 comments Well, they're not historical fiction, but Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak mysteries are enjoyable. They take place in the Alaska bush, with Native Americans as key players. I enjoyed one of them. Diana Gabaldon, of Outlander fame recommended them on her website. I was not disappointed.
