(view spoiler)[My god, I'm sorry but I cannot stand this writing style, maybe I'm just stupid or something but I have to read like every paragraph 3 times and even then I'm still not sure what the heck is going on.

The setting is cool, weeb-y but I'm the last person who has any business calling someone else a weeb 😂 (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[It's been a long, long time since I've wanted to DNF a book this badly, but I won't let this book defeat me.

I like stories that are confusing in their plots but this is just plain confusing because I have no idea what is even happening and half the terms that are used don't get explained at any point. This has one positive in that it means we don't get immersion-breaking 'people explaining things they already know to each other for the benefit of the reader' scenes but tbh I'd rather be able to understand the story. Style? Good. Comprehensiveness? Terrible. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1 (view spoiler)[Ok so I kind of like this so far???? I really wasn't expecting to. The writing style makes for slow reading and I don't care about the lead at all so far, but it's not terrible like I thought it would be XD (hide spoiler)]

Also Claire, I read the litcharts chapter summary for Ch1 after I was done reading and that actually helped.

So basically everything that's happened here is just being orchestrated by some sentient AI who wants to find another sentient AI? I don't get why it needed Case for this, he's not interesting. (hide spoiler)]

At 36% and looks like things are picking up. want to say more but not sure how to add spoilers on my phone haha.

(view spoiler)[Uh yeah so that got slightly more tolerable towards the end but I still wasn't really having a good time. The whole thing felt like some kind of weird fever dream.

So basically Molly leaves and Case goes back to doing exactly what he was doing in the beginning, bleak and depressing, but it works I guess. (hide spoiler)]

I find it very exciting that there are other people reading this book right now, too! I am almost finished with the book; I just started chapter 23. I started reading it because I "googled" the terms "best science fiction novel of all time" and this book came up. So far, I seem to understand why it came up, as it is extremely detailed and definitely depicts future science in a colorful manner.

To those of you reading right now-- where are you at in the book? What chapter? Interested in sharing thoughts!

Hey Emily! Happy to hear you're enjoying the book! I'm about halfway through, but I have it temporarily on hold because there's another book I want to read first. I'm not a huge fan of the writing style, so it's been harder to make myself read this one. XD
