Loved this book from the very first page. This is the story of 47 women who travel 2000 miles in 1852 from Chicago to the California gold fields. They are led by two ministers who are taking them to be brides to the miners. During the journey the women form a strong bond, each protecting the other at the peril of their own lives. Many of these women aren't so much interested in marriage as they are in escaping their painful pasts. This is a very uplifting story as the women begin to realize that getting to the end of their journey is not nearly as important as who they have become.
