What new aspect of female life was Machado explaining with this story?

This story was powerful, a recovery is occurring and a relationship is being tested by the trauma experienced by the narrator. There is also the whole current of who is watching whom through the medium of film-the camera at the party, the sex tapes, the narrator filming herself (and also her partner-does he know?) and what is becoming exposed through this medium. Can the narrator hear the thoughts of those on the DVDs? Will she hear her own thoughts and her partners thoughts when she plays back the video?
