no worries, Janice, it's certainly been a non-stop flow of books to read this month, hasn't it?!

Yay! 😃 I'm so curious about this one, can't wait to start it!"
It was up for one of the contenders for my face-to-face book club, but didn't get enough votes. A friend of mine is letting me borrow her copy and she really liked it. Can't wait to read it!

Of course. It should be a great read!
This sounds like it could be an excellent read. I will join you.

I am looking forward to reading this too. My copy arrived yesterday and I had to hold back from diving in!

I guess I will not be joining you any time soon.🙁

This is turning out to be a gut punching kind of read and one that is making me very thankful right now for my life.
I have read up to chapter 7 and (view spoiler) .
I had not heard of the Bialystock ghetto. From the description on Wiki it must have been an absolutely horrendous place to have lived, (if you could compare it to actually living).
In Chapter 2, (view spoiler)
I am intrigued to read further about Magda and the part she plays in the book. In chapter 3 (view spoiler)
I am really rooting for the Hansel & Gretel's father, but I am not so sure of the Stepmother. I guess time will tell!

I have plenty of my own books to read without buying any more, so I will be giving this one a pass until I can borrow it.

I am just about to start chapter 13 titled "The Burning".
Chapter 7, titled "Nelka" the description of the lice made my skin crawl! "The lice were coming out of the walls and washing down to the floor"
Chapter 8, titled "Pictures" there is a nod to the fairytale, (view spoiler)
Chapter 12, titled "The Car" (view spoiler) .

Same for me, Katrisa - I listened to the whole book while gardening, I didn't stop to make notes about chapters that things occurred in. So, I'll hold my spoilery comments for now...
Overall, I thought the book was a really unique way to write a war story, and very cleverly written how the elements of the fairy tale were woven in a way that were recognizable but very different too. And the characterization was great - even the 'bad/evil' characters were well drawn. And I agree, Hansel was so endearing!
Oh goodness - I've read the Ice Storm chapter....

I will pick up on the spoilers when I start reading it. I am currently doing two other buddy reads.

It was quite the story! I really liked the old woman, Magda, and her grand-niece. I hope she and her baby and Telex survived. The story of Magda’s ending was horrible. I was so shocked about the SS officer being in the city and chasing the children! (view spoiler)

Thank you, Katrisa. Sorry I did not get to read it with you.
Funny reading the spoilers so long after the fact. ;o)
