I just started, I'm only on page 19 (view spoiler)[ but WHOA, WHAT??? What a start. I was NOT expecting her to kill the little girl. (hide spoiler)]

I REALLY appreciate that the potential love interest is shorter than our heroine. I'm bigger than my fiancee and I always feel self-conscious about it and I don't think I've ever seen that in fiction. It feels so refreshing and an affirmation that woman who are larger stature are loved, too.

Awww...that is a nice touch! I haven't started this one yet.

I've started reading today and plan to finish it latest by the end of the month. The start is already very interesting and dark, now I wonder how the story will continue.

I started with an ebook but then the library took it back from me because I wasn't fast enough so I got it on audible and will be able to continue soon. I'm super slow with regular books or ebooks and super fast with audiobooks. I am liking it so far! On Chapter 11

Ok so I finished it! Only gave it 3 stars because I didn't like the predictability of the twists at the end but we can discuss that when y'all finish.

Also, I guess my expectations were high because other reviewers were comparing this book to the show Supernatural and I didn't feel it was as good as that and didn't have as many monsters as I was hoping.

I finished this and will admit, that for what it is I believe it to be well-written. However...this is just not my jam. Way too little characterization and way too much action, action, action. The closest I can equate it to is Naomi Novik's Uprooted, though I preferred that to Trail of Lightning. I will not be reading the rest of the series. I needed to know way more about the characters.

Awww... I'm sorry to hear that. I enjoy it so far, maybe because I didn't have any kind of expectation. But I'm only halfway through, so I can't say that much, yet.

Agreed! I just(view spoiler)[hope he is able to heal himself. I did kinda chuckle when the others were so angry with Maggie for shooting him. But I did understand. I would have been tempted to just shoot her in return I think! (hide spoiler)]

Another point made by some of the other book club members in my group today (we met remotely) was the androgynous characteristics for both main characters. (view spoiler)[Maggie is the fierce violent one who protects Kai while Kai is the gentler more peace-loving of the two. (hide spoiler)] I did remember that but hadn't mentioned it specifically.

Lindsay, does your library have an app? Many libraries use the Libby app and you sign in with your library card and password and can get the ebook or audiobook version of the next book. Also, maybe the library sent you an email with this information because of the closures?

Do we have a buddy read set up for the next book for next month?

Even though I thought the end was a bit predictable and only gave the first book 3 stars, I still want to know what happens next!

Hello! The second book was not on the April spreadsheet, but if two or more of you are planning on continuing the series next month I will make a thread!

I will not continue with this series, but I hope you all enjoy book #2 as well! :)
