If I was your girl by Meredith Russo was a super quick read. The book was easy to follow even when it jumped from the current time to the past years. Setting it up in this way where some chapters would go back in time, allowed me as a reader to understand the past and why the main character, Amanda, was the way she was when it came to certain things. Amanda's parents got a divorce and after many years of not talking to her father she went to live with him. When arriving, she and her father had to rekindle their past and bond again. At her new high school, she quickly made many friends and met many boys who began to have crushes on her. She ends up with one boy and near the end of the book is where things began to get intense. She had many secrets she kept to herself and tried to tell her boyfriend, but he did not care, The way the book was written really helps the reader understand the life of a transgender person and the battles they constantly face. I do not think I have ever read another LGBTQ book and I’m glad I chose this one to read. I found myself finishing the book in two days because I was so impatient when it came to knowing what was going to happen. It was a well written book about a transgenders life in high school, relationships with family, friends and significant others. I would recommend this book.
