Welcome! Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Deb, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club"! It sounds as if if you're in exactly the right place :) I think English mysteries are the best ... but then I'm a bit biased! And like you, I began with Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. They were the first two authors I took out of the "grown-ups" library, when I was old enough to be allowed in :)
I hope you have fun here!

I haven't read Nancy Drew either - growing up I was into the Hardy Boys and Alfred Hitchcock's The Three Investigators instead.
Hi Steve! Welcome to the "English Mysteries Club" - it's lovely to se you here :) I'm not sure whether I was aware of you "lurking", but I'm glad you've come out of the shadows. You'll find quite a few friends you know already - and also quite a few who are true experts in the genre (and some who are both, of course ...)
I hope you enjoy it here!

My name is Kim Krisco and I'm so pleased to have stumbled upon your book group. I am an author that specifically writes in this genre -- mystery-suspense stories that take place in post WWI England. I began by writing Sherlock Holmes pastiches but have since gravitated to new female protagonist (Tessa Wiggins) who is a friend of Sherlock Holmes. I hope to gain greater insights into this genre and what people in this niche love most. My latest novel (coming out in a few weeks) is set in 1920 Wales and is semi-historical, as are all my stories. Cheers!
Hi Kim, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". It sounds as though what we read here is right up your street :) We even have an ongoing buddy read of all the Sherlock Holmes books, (and Miss Marple books) as well as our monthly reads
Please join in wherever you like, and enjoy the discussions. I hope our readers will be able to introduce you to a few English mystery authors who you may not have heard of.
I hope reading and contributing here helps you gain the insights your mention. We do have several writers here, even though we are a reading group. Good luck!

I learnt to read with Enid Blyton, then progressed to Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers and many others.
Current favourite authors include Louise Penny, Donna Leon, Kerry Greenwood and Diana Xarissa.
Hi Helen and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I hope you like it here, and find plenty to join in with :)

Hi Claire and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". We read all those authors and lots more too :) (Louise Penny is in our dedicated thread for Canadian authors of course.)
Our poll to decide which book to read next has just been posted, so you are welcome to join in and vote. And just browse the threads and dive in wherever you like. Have fun :)

My name is Rita. I took a sabbatical from Goodreads and I have recently rejoined and I belonged to this group before. I love Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Hi Rita, lovely to see you here! I hope you enjoy the "English Mysteries Club". Welcome, and pop in just as much as you like :) You might enjoy our current group read of The Lodger :)
Plus the Sherlock Holmes continuing buddy read is almost complete (just time to join in) and the Miss Marple one is part way through.

I love all the classics, but at the moment I'm reading on my own all Louise Penny's books.
I hope to enjoy reading with you.
Hi Miriam, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". We read a "golden age" English mystery every month, and have lots of threads for English authors you might enjoy. Just join in wherever you like and have fun!

Welcome Miriam. My wife and I also are reading Louise Penny's books. Two years ago we visited the part of Quebec where the books take place. We were looking for covered bridges. Here is a link to my travelogue if you are interested: http://www.vermontbridges.org/keating...
I have read the 1st 6 books in the series and posted reviews of each on GR.

Glad to find others who are interested in British mysteries!
Hi Alan, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". You're definitely on solid ground here. We're just coming to the end of an extended buddy read of all the Sherlock Holmes stories (with still time to join in!) and have a similar ongoing one of the Miss Marple stories.
Plus our group read this month is by Agatha Christie! So have a look through our threads and join in wherever you like :) Happy reading!

Hi Matt, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I hope you enjoy it here, and Merry Christmas to you too :)

I am a librarian working in Lomma, Sweden. Love to read of course and also go horse riding in the woods. Right now i can't put down Jessica Fellowe's books about the Mitford sisters.
Hi Else, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". Horse riding in the woods in winter - how marvellous! I too live near to woods - an ancient English oak forest :) I hope you enjoy it here, and just join in wherever you like.

My love of mysteries began with Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and Secret Seven, progressed to Conan-Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, and now includes contemporary authors like Ann Cleeves, Elly Griffiths, and Faith Martin, to name but three.
I look forward to getting to know you and joining in the discussions.
Hi Rob, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". Ah that's a lovely area; my brother used to live there :) I expect you're familiar with the "Fethering" series by Simon Brett. Our current group read of The Black Tower by P.D. James is set just along the coast in Dorset as well.
It sounds like this group will be just your cup of tea, so do in wherever you like and have fun!

Thank you for the welcome, Jean, it's good to be here. Yes, I've read quite a few of the Fethering series by Simon Brett. I've also met him. I'm looking forward to some fun, some recommendations and connecting with people.

Thank you, Rosemarie. Delighted to be here.

Hi Phair, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". An emphasis on historical mysteries sounds fine - and I'm sure you'll be able to suggest some ideas in that genre! I hope you enjoy the discussions, and find lots to join in with here :)
Hi Darlene, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". You're in the right place, if you're looking for new English mystery authors from the Golden Age. Our members can offer lots of suggestions - and take a look at some of our author folders too! Happy mystery reading :)

I cut my adult mystery-reading teeth on Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, lo those many decades ago. Looking forward to discovering new authors/books/series here and the camaraderie of like-minded book lovers.
