Miroslav Vukcevic | 7 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Miroslav, historian from Serbia! I'm passionate anglophile and lover of mystery novel which take place in England. My favorites are classics such as Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. Currently reading A Scandal in Bohemia.
Loved english mysteries since my early chlidhood. Besides from reading, I love watching mysteries like Mrs Marple and when I was a child - Jeremy Brett in Sherlock Holmes.
I enjoy reading/watching a good mystery placed in English countryside homes where several characters are involved, with a spice of British humour.
Feel free to add me as a friend!

Welcome to the group Miroslav !
I'm Tiziana, 51 years old from Italy ( the reason why my English is not the best... :-) )

Love Conan Doyle and Christie since I was 12 years old.
I mostly read classic mysteries or cozy mysteries, I really don't like horrors and thrillers thrillers with creepy scenes and I don't like books with dirty and rude language.

Between one mystery and another I like to read something like: children's classics, romantic novels with a pinch of adventure and espionage, fiction inspired by real events but featuring a happy ending.

I joined this group about 2 months ago and found kind people and lots of good reading suggestions.
Welcome aboard and have a great fun !

message 658: by Miroslav (new)

Miroslav Vukcevic | 7 comments Thank You, Tiziana! I'm also fond of cozy/soft mysteries where the plot is developed indoors with lots of suspicious characters interacting one with another!

abishay | 1 comments Hello! My name is Abishay and I am a huge fan of horror/thriller/mystery books! In elementary, I read almost every R.L. Stine book imaginable, and in middle school I read quite a number of April Henry's books. As of recently (being freshly graduated from high school) I have been getting back into my groove with Stephen King and Agatha Christie :) I am relatively new to the reading community as a whole, at least in comparison to others on Goodreads, and I hope to discover and fall in love with some new, great authors in this group!

message 683: by Amy (new)

Amy James | 25 comments Hello! My name is Amy and I am addicted to British manor mysteries, especially Golden Age. I have two beagles - one named Wimsey and one named Miss Lemon - so you can guess my two favorite authors. :) I would love to discover similar authors and continue to feed my addiction, lol. Is this group open to reading contemporary authors, such as P.J. Fitzsimmons and his hilarious locked-room murder mysteries? I cannot get enough of his main character Anty Boisjoly!

Hi Amy, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Group". What a great introductory post you have written 😀 We do indeed read all types of English mystery, and P.J. Fitzsimmons's series with its Bertie Woodhouse flavour sounds just our cup of tea!

I am about to set up the poll for next month's group read, and nearly added it ... but actually this month's poll is golden age authors. Next month's poll however, will be the chance for contemporary or more recent English mystery authors, so do feel free to nominate one of P.J. Fitzsimmons's about Anty Boisjoly from 1st onwards (or I can, if you prefer).

Until then, please do join in with any other threads you fancy!

Elizabeth (ecutbeard) | 1 comments Hello all! I’m Elizabeth (Lisa) and I was once a school librarian but now a School Secretary in a UK school. My children are grown up now so have more time to read! Like heartwarming stories and classics but also I do love a “Who Dunnit”. Am starting to read Agatha Christie but in the past have read some Sherlock Holmes and Daphne Du Maurier. Recently read Anthony Horowitz’s Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders and lived them!

Jenyfer L Johnson | 15 comments Hello! I just joined because my favorite books are English mysteries! My Great-Grandmother (English) and another old relative introduced me to Agatha Christie as a very young child…it’s been love ever since. I also love Nagio Marsh, which, in my mind, is similar. Recently finished Read all of T.E. Kinsey’s Lady Hardcastle books and loved them. I’ve started the Irish Village books by Carlene O’Connor but am currently reading G.K. Chesterton’s Father Brown Complete Mysteries. My other reading genre is detective fiction, nothing new, I prefer the classics…Daishell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Earle Stanley Gardener, Ross McDonald and John D. MacDonald.

Katja | 4 comments Hi! My name is Katja, I'm originally from Belarus but have lived in Sweden for many years. Now I'm also in the UK sometimes, since my husband works there for the time being, so we share our time between Sweden and UK. I have always been a fan of mystery novels. My all time favorite writer is Agatha Christie, and now I almost exclusively read (listen) to 'cozy' mysteries (nice characters, not too much scary stuff, traumas etc.), my new favorites are Anthony Horowitz and Richard Osman, as well as Ashley Weaver (Amory Ames series) and Helena Marchmont (Bunburry series). Feel free to recommend me something of the sorts if you know :) It's really nice to be in this group, I am looking forward to find inspiration for future reading here!

message 697: by Helen (new)

Helen (helenfrominyocounty) | 10 comments Welcome, Katja! I enjoy the Amory Ames and Bunburry books also, good reads. Have you tried the "Royal Spyness" series by Rhys Bowen? First one is, luckily enough, Her Royal Spyness (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #1) by Rhys Bowen Her Royal Spyness.
