Is he known internationally or not? This is "Simons Cat" - a popular cartoon here, with short animations too. This is the moment before ... 😃

I fell in love with the English mystery genre round about the turn of the Millennium, when I chanced upon a copy of an old book called My Foe Outstretch'D Beneath The Tree by V. C. Clinton-Baddeley. The title led me interestingly to the poetry of William Blake, which I had never read, but heard about from my more "literary-minded" older sister.
And that in turn led me to Agatha Christie's Endless Night (also taking it's title from a line in a Blake poem) which despite its authorship was not really a mystery - at least not to me (I figured out by the second page who would be killed and who had "done" it).
Anyway that's how I got started on English mysteries. I wouldn't call it my favourite genre. Let's just say that it's one of my favourites.
Hi Dan, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club".
What an intriguing introduction - and it's high time we had something by V.C. Clinton-Baddeley as a group read. Maybe when we next collect nominations for our golden mystery read you can suggest one? That will be in about a month's time. At the moment we are nominating for a more modern mystery, LINK HERE if you would like to join in (but not your own - sorry - but all the best with them!)
I hope you like it here, and please join in wherever you like.

Catherine, I want to read more Miss Silver since I've enjoyed the couple I have read.
Hi Catherine, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club".
Have you spotted that we're reading a Miss Silver book at the moment? (Perhaps that's what attracted you!) Anyway do join in if you like LINK HERE
and any other threads you fancy as well. I hope you like it here 😊

Yes, that was one of the things that initially grabbed my attention. The library list is one of the other reasons I joined. And, that you still have set group reads.
Oh yes Catherine, a new one every month, and we alternate between the golden age and something a bit more recent. 😊

Hi Holly and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I hope you like it here, and do nominate a golden age mystery you would like to read with us during March, if you like! LINK HERE

Hi Vic and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". That's a great "rule" you've set for yourself, and I think you'll find our reading suits you to a "t" 😊
Our next group read will be a golden age mystery, so do feel free to nominate one you'd like to read with us during March, if you like! LINK HERE

I'm so excited to discover more titles and have amazing discussions with all the wonderful readers here.
Hi Rashi and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I think you're right, than this is exactly your sort of community. I hope you like it here, and look forward to discussing books with you!

Welcome to the "English Mysteries Club" Ken. It sounds as though this group is tailor made for you! Do join in wherever you like, and we look forward to getting to know you 😊

As every month comes there are fewer and fewer pennies in my pocket: I’ve only myself to blame, I voted…….. Staying in is actually more enjoyable than I first thought: books, books, and more books appeals.
Please friend me.
Hi Jem and Kami, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I hope you both like it here! Do join in wherever you like and have fun 😊

Helen
Hi Helen, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". If you like Agatha Christie then you're definitely in the right place here! Just join in wherever you like and have fun 😊 We look forward to getting to know you.

Anyway I like many things English, American, and Japanese. I also tend to read Russian literature etc in French. I don't like native French Literature for reasons I won't go into here, but I like the language itself.
I have seen Richard Osman twice in Would I Lie To You. He is very smart. Anyone who shuts Lee Mack up is a winner in my book.
LOL Luffy, (to your final comment) and welcome to the group. I hope you like it here, and do join in our group read of The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman if you can 🙂

Thanks, Jean! I will probably join the read.

I'm a big consumer of audiobooks, and am looking forward to some recommendations.
Hi Nic, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I'm so sorry I didn't see your post before now!
It's great to have another English member - and I love your country! We spent just 3 weeks touring both islands about 25 years ago (gosh - that was a shock to work out!) and would happily have emigrated if it hadn't been for all our animals.
I hope you like it here, and find plenty of ideas!

I'm from Dublin and have just finished writing my first book Seal of Love. The story is set mostly in Scotland on the Isle of Mull. Brian and Eilish meet on a dating app in florida and then travel to Scotland to meet Brian's mum. And that's where the capers begin with Brian disappearing, politics, witches and close friends.
Hi Sierra, and welcome to the group! I hope you like it here, and do join in with some of our group reads and so on.
We have friends who moved to Mull, so stayed there a few times. It's a beautiful island for sure, and we loved visiting Iona and the other uninhabited islands offshore, such as Lungha with its wonderful bird life, and watching puffins - and looking at the extraordinary geology of Staffa and Fingal's Cave from the boat. Great place to set your novel.
We also had a holiday in Dublin many years ago, and what comes back to me from that are the friendly pubs (though I don't drink!) and the stunning calm of Glendalough. What a lovely place to live!
