Hi Keri, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I'm so glad you introduced yourself, and hope you enjoy it here! There certainly are lots of authors discussed here, so we hope to introduce you to a few "new to you" ones :)

Susan in NC (susanncreader) Mysteries have always been my favorite genre. Mostly English mysteries. My name is Susan, I live in North Carolina, and have been a Goodreads member for years.

I belong to a few groups, some more active than others; after recently reading two stinkers in a row, (GA authors I just can’t get into), I wanted to read a surefire mystery, and saw this group was reading one of my favorite authors, ECR Lorac. I look forward to getting more great input on authors and mystery series to try from the group.

Hi Susan, and welcome to the "English Mysteries club". I hope you like it here :) How great that you like E.C.R. Lorac! This is a new author to quite a few of us, so please do comment in the thread, and I hope we can introduce you to some new reads too :)

(Sorry for the deleted posts, all. My computer took it into its head to post my comment 4 times ...)

Hi everyone! I was a member of this group at one point and I left. Actually, I was inactive on GR generally for a while, but have recently come back. I was very excited to see this group relaunched.

I'm Elizabeth from SW Pennsylvania in the USA. I have loved mysteries since I was in grade school and a librarian recommended the Nancy Drew series. So, yes, I'm another one that started with her books! After that I moved to Agatha Christie, who I just love, especially her Poirot novels. I have also read a couple of John Dickson Carr's books. I am looking forward to expanding my reading to other authors. I love historical, locked room, and the country house style mysteries. I have been looking at the books in the review thread and have already added several to my TBR list. Very happy to be back in this group and looking forward to some great reading!

message 265: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 262 comments Welcome back Elizabeth! :) I really have to look into Nancy Drew one day, as she´s been read by almost all Americans!

My mother was a border line hoarder. I think it was from growing up in the Depression. I found boxes of papers like an essay I wrote in the 4th grade entitled "If I was a chair for a day". Why would you save that?

This is how old I am. I am now reading a new Anne Perry's series based on the oldest Pitt son now an attorney. Doesn't that make me feel ancient?

Ha! I’m reading that series too! I was always a big Perry fan, read the Pitt and Monk series for years, so when I had surgery a few years ago, my dearest friend sent me the first Daniel Pitt mystery, autographed by Perry! My friend lives in Orlando, works at Disney and somehow got me an autographed book - can’t see Anne Perry doing a book tie-in at Disney - repressed upper class Victorians at the “happiest place on earth” seems an odd fit! Anyway, I am very much enjoying the Daniel Pitt series - I feel ancient as well.

Welcome, all new members, I just joined last month to get in on an ECR Lorac read - lovely group. Happy Reading!

I like the Daniel Pitt series too. It was a clever idea to breathe life into a tired series.

Yes, I’m so glad it has worked for her (and readers!), spin-Offs aren’t always successful.

message 291: by Cynda (new)

Cynda My friend Landa and I have watched any number of television episodes of English mysteries on Sunday evenings on PBS. As an annual treat to myself for finishing the majority of my reading commitments, I have decided to read at least 6 cozy mysteries each year. I will be ready to read sometime in September. See you soon.

Kirsten McKenzie (kirstenmckenzieauthor) | 2 comments Hello everyone,
I'm Kirsten from Auckland, New Zealand. I have an extensive collection of the original Penguin edition Agatha Christie books, and have just started collecting the original Ngaio Marsh Penguin edition books! I started out my reading life with Enid Blyton, and haven't stopped reading since... I'm also an author, with six published novels. But there's always time for reading, in between parenting and pandemic lockdowns...

And I forgot to say that my favourite podcast series is "Shedunnit" - all about the golden age of crime writing. I recommend it.

Hi Kirsten, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". I'm English, but went to New Zealand once, and fell in love with the country. Our visit (a tour) ended with us staying with an old school friend who now lives there. I heard from him this morning actually, and he tells me you are under certain measures again.

Yes, quite a few readers have used the lockdown to hunker down and read even more :) I hope you enjoy the group. Just join in wherever you like!

message 299: by Mariasha (new)

Mariasha | 15 comments Hello, everyone. Thank you for letting me join. I am brand new to the group system on Goodreads. I have joined it last year however. I am not a native speaker but I love crime fiction and I have probably read through rhe complete Sherlock Holmes storiesand even some pastiches by the time I was ten. I still love the classics and added some more modern authors like M.C. Beaton. And authors whose stories take place in England like Alan Bradley.
