Hi Ru An, and hi Heather :) Welcome to the "English Mysteries Club".

I'm so pleased you have both joined us, and I hope you will find plenty to join in with here. Just scroll through the threads, and join where you like. We have a new group read every month, and alternate between golden age English Mysteries and more modern ones. We have author folders as well as all the different types of mysteries, and plenty of places to chat. I hope you find lots of new ideas for reading here. Just enjoy the group :)

Pam | 1 comments Hello, I'm Pam. I've yet to find an author that I love as much as Ruth Rendell. I've read everything by Rendell/Barbara Vine 2 or 3 times. If there are any fans who've found a writer similar to Rendell, I'd love the recommendations.

Your reading sounds as though you really love mysteries, so I do hope you enjoy it here. Join in wherever you like :)

message 414: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinpickell) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Robin and I consider myself a really good armchair detective - book and television, lol. I like all mysteries and was looking for a group to join. I recently finished Dorothy Sayers's Peter Whimsey series, and saw y'all are reading one of my favorite Georgette Heyer mysteries, Why Shoot a Butler? and had to ask to join. Currently, I'm reading the The Freeman Files Series: Books 1-3.

I'll try to be involved, but if you look at my currently reading list, you'll know I'm negligent at writing reviews, so please excuse me if I don't reply regularly.

Hi Helen
My favorite authors all seem to be women. I have read all of Louise Penny, I enjoy Anne Perry, currently Lynn Messina, Anne Cleeves, Elizabeth George, But also the Charles Todd Ian Rutledge series and many others. Who do you enjoy reading?

message 418: by Devashree (new)

Devashree Tulankar | 5 comments Hi, my name is Devashree and I live in Mumbai, India. My go-to way to relax is reading a mystery. Some of the authors I enjoy include Ann Cleeves, M C Beaton, Louise Penny and of course, Agatha Christie.

Due to the new Covid-19 wave, we are in a lockdown here. I am hoping to use some of this time to discover new books and authors. This group looks like just the place for it!

I look forward to joining the group reads and participating in the discussions.

We do hear what a crisis you have in India at the moment, so as Michaela says, please stay safe. And join in wherever you like :)

Csilla Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member from Hertfordshire, England. I've been a big fan of mysteries since I read my first Agatha Christie at the age of ten. I love the puzzle element, spotting clues, building theories. My current favourite is Anthony Horowitz, looking forward to his new Hawthorne book to be published.

message 428: by LISA (new)

LISA Glass | 16 comments Hello! I am a new member. I absolutely love Agatha Christie. My first mystery was "Elephants Can Remember" which I read in high school. I have loved them ever since. I live in North Carolina, in the US. I am a big fan of cozy mysteries and I am always looking for one similar to Agatha Christie and Murder, She Wrote.

Hi Lisa, and welcome to the "English Mysteries Club". Lovers of Agatha Christie are very welcome, and if you like cosy mysteries then I think you'll love it here :)

How wonderful to be able to remember your first ever mystery read! I hope you find lots more to join in with here, with us.

message 430: by LISA (new)

LISA Glass | 16 comments I hope so as well! I have never read anything by Dorothy L. Sayers, so I am excited to read Whose Body? (Lord Peter Wimsey, #1) by Dorothy L. Sayers !

message 431: by Helen (new)

Helen (helenfrominyocounty) | 10 comments Hi, Lisa, and welcome to the group. If you are at all interested in the historical mystery genre (which is all that I read), there are a lot of "cozy" HMs I could recommend. One that comes to mind is the Beryl Helliwell and Edwina Davenport series by Jessica Ellicott, also set in a quaint 1930s English village, where the bodies tend to fall about. The first is Murder in an English Village (appropriate, what?), and she's up to five books now.

message 432: by LISA (new)

LISA Glass | 16 comments Thank you so much for the recommendations. I will definitely check them out!

Hi Lisa! Welcome! I'm from the south, too. My first "grown up" mystery was also Agatha Christie - "Cards on the Table".

Glad you'll be reading with us in June - Whose Body? is a good one!

message 434: by LISA (new)

LISA Glass | 16 comments I love the "Cards on the Table" as well. I don't know how she came up with all of these plots.

message 435: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (theredwolf) AAAWWWOOOOOOO Hello to all! I'm Samantha aka The Red Wolf. I am a hardcore classic Nancy Drew fan (plus, I LOVE the computer games). I'm in Canada and just love mysteries, although I've probably watched more mysteries than read them, especially when it comes to Holmes, Poirot and Marple. I just enjoy them better and I don't get as confused with the long list of characters as I do when reading the story.
Anyways, I look forward to seeing what this group has in store!

message 436: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 262 comments Welcome Samantha! I understand about Christie´s long list of characters, and remember my parents had some of her mysteries with lists of characters. Enjoy! :)

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, and even the television shows and movies would sometimes make characters look similar, which caused confusion and arguments between me and my parents as we tried to follow the story. I swear they do it on purpose to prevent viewers from solving the mystery themselves LOL

Cynda Hi. Just like I did last year, I am here as member from mid-August to December. Usually I am done with my heavier reading and am wanting lighter reading by this time of the year. . . . While I fell behind on reading this year, I still need my cozy mystery time. So good to be back for a while.
