The witcher Geralt of Rivia is the guardian of Ciri, the lost granddaughter of Queen Calanthe of Cintra and object of a prophecy that spells doom for the world. But after a coup among the sorcerers, chaos erupts and Geralt is separated from his charge. Now they all must try to survive as the Nilfgaardians wage war.

Sapkowski's writing remains strong as his saga continues. I love his characters, who are all flawed and very human, and though there is a lot of darkness in his books it's tempered by the levity of the character of the bard. I did find it annoying that the bard's name changed from book 1 to book 2, and can't figure out if it's deliberate or a mistranslation. I look forward to continuing the series.

No, I do ebooks, never audio as it takes too long. The Last Wish is narrated by Peter Kenny.
