This thread is open to discuss You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks.

Synopsis
You probably know someone like Shay Miller.
She wants to find love, but it eludes her.
She wants to be fulfilled, but her job is a dead end.
She wants to belong, but her life is so isolated.

You probably don’t know anyone like the Moore sisters.
They have an unbreakable circle of friends.
They live the most glamorous life.
They always get what they desire.

But what they really want is hers.

message 9: by Geri (new)

Geri I started yesterday. I read through chapter 17. Surprising and intriguing beginning. I’m still not totally sure what is going on. (view spoiler) I will continue now to see if I can figure some things out!

Brooke, how was the book event?

Brooke | 1199 comments I read the first 50 pages (through about ch 12) the night before the author event so I would at least know the tone of the book. I'm enjoying it so far, but like Geri I am unsure what exactly is happening. I do like the multiple POV in this one, as it is deepening the story.

The event was great! Greer read the first chapter, then they did a Q&A. They also discussed their unique writing style. I can tell they've been friends for years - they kept finishing each other's sentences and joking around. They were asked to write the screenplay for the adaptation of The Wife Between Us, which they are super excited about, and they are currently working on their next book collaboration.

The way they write together is interesting, and I haven't heard of any other duo writing this way. They use Google docs and hangouts to write together every day from 9-3. As in literally writing together. They both said that if they looked at any sentence in one of their books, they wouldn't know who was actually responsible for it. They are constantly making suggestions and revising things so it all blurs together with who does what. They also get together 1 weekend a month, alternating between DC and NY and spend 36ish hours locked in a hotel room writing and plotting.

One interesting thing was that they got about 200 pages done of this book and then scrapped it & started over. They just weren't happy with it, and they changed almost everything about it in the version we are reading - except the character names.

Laura | 9707 comments Was it a packed event? It certainly sounds like it was a great time. Thanks for sharing all of that Brooke.
I'm not quite as far as you two. I read 3 chapters yesterday:-) I'm hoping to catch up tonight!

There were about 25-30 people there. I don't know how many people didn't go who planned to, whether due to virus panic or life getting in the way. But there was at least 50 committed, as originally you had to RSVP and get a ticket for your # to stand in line for the signing. I was #48 and RSVP'd a couple of weeks ago.

Geri Very interesting! I never would have thought they wrote that way. It’s so great you were able to go when we are reading their book.

Laura | 9707 comments I' m up to chapter 30
(view spoiler)

My premise- expanding on Geri's earlier comment
(view spoiler)

I actually like all the data book entries and I 'm enjoying the switch up between past and present ( it seems a common trope in mysteries /thrillers today)

Geri I finished. For some reason I didn’t have much to say about this book. Probably because I didn’t have a real grasp of the story until I was halfway through the book. You were right, Laura. Good guess! But what did you think of the final twists?

This book was just okay for me. The Wife Between Us is still the best book I read by these authors. I’m glad I read it, though.

Laura | 9707 comments I'm about 30-40 pages left...and looking forward to finishing. I m enjoying so far!!

message 17: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 1199 comments I made it through the end of part 1 last night. My reading time has been lower this week due to working longer hours for a couple of new projects and 2 evenings with a 9pm meeting (with China, so major time zone difference). But I'm still intrigued!

Through ch 32
(view spoiler)

I'm hoping to finish tonight!

Geri Glad you liked it, Laura. I may be a little jaded now with these types of books. It was just an okay book for me. 3 stars.

message 20: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 1199 comments I stayed up late Friday finishing it. I was so sucked into the story that I didn't realize it was 3am when I was done!

(view spoiler)

I get jaded sometimes with thrillers, too, Geri, because like you I read a lot of them. I consider it a good one if I get so sucked into the story I forget everything else around me. This story definitely did that.
