Discussion for chapters 12 & 13 of the book ONLY, no spoilers for any other parts of the book please!

Paul (paul_sff) | 68 comments So everything is pretty cleared up about what everyone's intentions and plans are after these 2 chapters. It's a turning point in the story. Erikson has cleared up a lot of confusion and laid the groundwork for this story and now I expect there to be more contention between all the characters.

Now it is going to be everyone trying to find and want the power with this locked up T'lan Imass that uses the Jaghut power. Whatever that thing or person is, I think it'll really shake things up.

What I find interesting is that I'm not really on anyone's "side" at this point. I guess that is because there really aren't any "good guys" in this story. Just a bunch of factions within factions with their own goals. I would like to see The Bridgeburners leave The Empire though.

I'm going to try to finish this up in the next day or so, so I can move on, but I am really enjoying it, and I'm glad I bought all 10 books way before I even started reading the series lol.

I really enjoyed these two chapters. We get a lot of explanation about various things and I'm very interested in the Dragons everyone keeps talking about (I do love a good dragon).

QuickBen's deal seemed like it was fraught with craziness and hidden meanings, and the fact that he's a shapeshifter too is certainly cool. I wonder how his deal will affect things and when he plans to turn over Hairlock. It seems like a pretty risky business to make deals with Gods.

Crokus and his random obsession with Challice seems really weird. I wonder if it's his own choice or if he's being influenced by Oponn.

I loved the scene with the big fight between the Demons and Mages as that was a pretty cool scene. Knowing also that the Sword is a big deal is pretty cool and I want to find out more about if anyone can actually resist it or not. It sounds terribly powerful.

The whole plot with digging up a dead creature thing sounds really scary and insane, why anyone would try and unleash a creature they don't know how to control is a bit worrying, and I wonder if they'll manage it or be stopped.

There's a load that happens here which is worth talking about, so I look forward to everyone else's thoughts, but I just wanted to quickly drop a few of mine in :)

As person that's kinda of loner that phrase really stuck too me. lol
I really enjoyed these 2 chapters like the others said if helps clear some things up.

Sorry, "she knew that he(Crokus) would have to die but something within her seemed to be fighting that conclusion."
I really like Sorry's POV and what's going on in her head. You can see the push and pull of Ammanas in her, but his power is to strong. But I do question her intentions. So she has to kill Crokus cause she's a Bridgeburner? To protect her front as a member of the Empire? He saw the blood on her dagger? But she didn't want to cause Ammanas opposes the Empire? that has my a little confused. any help?

Baruk has an alliance with Rake, but Rake was trying to eliminate the assassins guild in fear of Vorcan making an alliance with the Empire in doing so Rake confirms the Empire already has members in the city i.e. Claw, cause of the battle, going off Rakes assumptions which pissed Baruk off. Baruk says the guild keeps the politicians in check but I was wondering if it pissed him off cause he's trying to protect his friends like Rallick etc from danger?

Protecting the coin bearer(Crokus) is high priority, I like Crokus and hope he stays around so I can see what continues with him and Challice.

Quick Ben is and interesting character, getting some back story on him was neat. I wonder if his history with the Shadow gives him any advantages?

Hairlock is has been confirmed by Crone and relayed to Baruk, that he is heading to the Gadrobi Hills, now Baruk is sending Kruppe and company to investigate. What what happens??

So everything is going to be pointing to the Gadrobi Hills with the Jaghut Tyrant and the wicked magic it posses. Like Baruk say's "The Malzan Empire seeks something it cannot control."
