Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments I'm kinda curious of those of here are there any pen and paper roleplayers? I play D&D, Pathfinder, GURPS, Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, you name it. I'd love to chat with some of you book readers who look for inspiration for your games from the novels you digest.

Me. I've played and run I don't even know how many games over the decades. Currently setting up a Dresden Files RPG, based on their game.

I even co-wrote a supplement for Vampire: The Masquerade way back when.

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments My current claim to fame is I contributed to an Android fan app for Exalted.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

It's based on my random tables from my blog.

I'm really excited for Exalted 3E. Should have the pdf next month!

Kirsten (ringwraith10) | 60 comments I try to play pen & paper games, but I have trouble getting groups together. When I was younger all of my friends were extremely ADD (which is bad when trying to play something like D&D) and now I don't really have any gamer friends where I live. I have played a LOT of other tabletop games, though. At conventions I was once one of those people who lurked around the game room and played ALL the games. I don't do that anymore because my big ex still inhabits the game room 24/7 at all cons and I don't want to run into him. :(

Too bad you don't live closer, Kirsten, I'm always looking for more players. Hope you find a new group!

message 6: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (ringwraith10) | 60 comments That would definitely be cool. My best friend actually has a group that plays every Saturday, but I moved 150 miles away from her three years ago, so that's no longer an option for me. :(

I'm trying to get a Dresden Files RPG off the ground, having a few problems with it. Best of luck, Kirsten.

message 8: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (ringwraith10) | 60 comments Wayland -- that sounds like it would be really cool, but also really hard. If you can get it going, I'd love to hear how it works out!

The core book was a great read. The rules make sense, but even better, in the margins, Harry, Bob, and Will, 3 characters from the series, keep arguing about things. I've never enjoyed reading a rule book til now, certainly never laughed out loud before.

message 10: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelunabridged) | 49 comments I've got a group that I play with twice a month. We've been playing for about two years now. We started out with Pathfinder, but we're looking into other games now. One member of our group bought some Call of Cthulhu books earlier this week, so we're hoping to try that sometime soon. I've heard a lot of good things about that one, so I'm really excited about it! :D
Right now, we're playing a sci-fi game that we wrote ourselves. It's coming along really well. We're hoping we can get everything polished enough to actually get it published. :)

message 11: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Online play is always an option.

message 12: by Wade (new)

Wade Garret | 1 comments I did. Haven't in a long time.

message 13: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments I have a weekly D&D 5E game currently and a 'montly'? Pathfinder one. Personally I'm on hold until Exalted 3E drops from the kickstarter, (it's due 1st Qtr) and then man I'm going to go crazy offering online games set in Creation. I also would love to do some StartWars Edge of the Empireor Age of Rebellion as well.

message 14: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments One thing I'll offer to roleplayers who want to try out new systems are maybe monthly Saturday Night Skype sessions, it would be an easy system with premade characters. I have a few great options.

message 15: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments There are a few sites I'd love to point roleplayers at:

www.drivethrurpg.com - a good online story for ebooks and Print on Demand copies of games.

www.roll20.net - One of the THE best online free(ish) gaming sites to host your games.

www.rpg.net - The forums here are decent if very strict on behavior. Good enough place to go game suggestion hunting. Very LGBT friendly too. (Has a lot of Onyx Path folks modding it.)

message 16: by Mary (new)

Mary Green I have played pen and paper rpg

message 17: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 1818 comments I've played them in my day, mostly D&D. Hard to find a group.

message 18: by Wade (new)

Wade Garret | 1 comments Once upon a time I played a weekly session for a few hours with some friends.

I ran one game till Epic Level. Was about a 4yr game.

message 19: by John (new)

John (johnred) I joined in with a group a couple times in college...would love to get into it, but no time now. I've actually picked up a game called "RPGKids", in the hopes of getting my kids into it someday soon.

message 20: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Not that hard to find a group these days. And plenty of adult groups that play too btw. Sorry for late response. Rather ill this month.

message 21: by Mary (new)

Mary Green its not that hard for me to play because we have a DM in the family

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Mary wrote: "its not that hard for me to play because we have a DM in the family"

That always helps. Ya. I'm kinda the local DM/GM/Storyteller in the family.

message 23: by Mary (new)

Mary Green we have yet to start the world he made, it is supposed to last forever

message 24: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments Just stumbled across this discussion! I am a D&D player! I am by no means an expert but I do love the game. I am currently a level 5 human monk who is following the way of the elements and she's epic! Anyway just thought it was cool there was a thread here for this kind of stuff! Love it!

message 25: by Mary (new)

Mary Green what version do you play?

message 26: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments I've played them all myself, but currently 5E. However I'm on D&D break and running Numenera.

message 27: by ladymurmur (new)

ladymurmur | 11 comments I am quite fortunate to have a group of friends that gathers to game regularly. We've had an every-other-Friday gaming session for years. This group was my introduction to actual table-top RPGs. My first system? Rolemaster! We've also done various campaigns using the Star Wars D6 system (usually in a 'verse of the GM's creation), and are currently running a campaign in D&D 4.

Recently, the half of us without kids have started meeting on the off-Fridays to explore D&D 5. I'm currently reading through the Dresden Files source book, and hopefully later this summer will have my first GM'ing experience with an adventure in that system. We've also gotten the Monster Hunter International RPG book, and will probably try that as our next campaign. Our D&D 4 DM hasn't managed to kill us off yet - but he's sure trying! LOL!

message 28: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Sounds like fun. I played a lot of Star Wars d6. Experimented with the new EoTE version, it's quite nice.

message 29: by Nick (new)

Nick (bookwyrm5000) Let's see: I've been playing D&D 3.5 for three years now, and DMing it for two; I also lead the occasional session of Dread. Additionally, I've played Pathfinder and Call of Cthulu, and I know the rules for a handful of other RPGs. Working on a homebrew RPG in the Harry Potter Universe.

It has been my experience over the years that a gamer's choice is kids or gaming. I know of very few that manage to continue gaming after having kids.

This is not a rant against choosing to be a parent, merely an observation.

message 33: by Mary (new)

Mary Green what if you game with kids? that might work

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Fairburn | 12 comments It is difficult to find time. My husband and his friends get together one night every other week to play MTG or D&D, but I pretty much stick to PC RPGs these days after our son goes to sleep. He's still a toddler so we're limited in what he gets to participate in with us. He likes to play on our computers and sits in my lap and 'helps' when we play board games, so I anticipate he'll have a little interest when he's older just because he's growing up with it.

There's a bar nearby that has board and tabletop game nights with huge turnouts I really want to get involved in, but it probably won't happen until kid(s) get older.

message 35: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Hey, if you have kids I's suggest checking out Monte Cook's new game set to come out this year.

http://www.nothankyouevil.com/

They kickstarted the delux set, but the core game will be great with kids.

message 36: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments Have any of you heard of 'dice shaming' It's along the same lines of dog or cat shaming where they show the animal with a note of how they have hilariously disobeyed. This new dice shaming thing makes me laugh so hard because we have all been there. Here is a link to some very funny ones. http://www.blastr.com/2014-8-26/27-di...

message 37: by Nick (new)

Nick (bookwyrm5000) If I'm rolling particularly poorly, I tend to remind my dice that I have plural pounds of potential replacements.

You rock! I will definitely be sharing these with my D&D group during our next meet up!

message 44: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Just keep in mind that FATE Core is not like D&D at all. I'm okay with it, but it's very, very meta. It works off of narrative power.

To date I'm only an online RPG player, not pen and paper, however I've been completely hooked on watching Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana on Geek and Sundry! :)

Anyone else been watching it?

message 47: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Aye. it's using the AGE system developed for Dragon Age rpg.

I know it's not table top bit has anyone played and od the big pc D&D games (baldurs gate/icewind Dale 1&2, torment, neverwinter nights, pillars of eternity) and if so have any humorous tales or stories or characters in general to share.

I've never really done tabletop as I grew up in a very small town (pop. 800) and had no one to play with but I have played through most of the pc games numerous timea
