This folder is for the exclusive use of members to discuss all things audio books.

The moderators will be adding an Audio Zone Group "Listen" starting in the new year.

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments On the subject of "reading" do your friends make fun of the fact that you call it reading when you listen.

message 12: by William (new)

William (williemeikle) As luck would have it... here's some things I prepared earlier...

My audiobooks... 12 novels there, with more coming in 2015

http://www.williammeikle.com/audioboo...

And there's also this -- stories in podcasts / online zines etc. A whole bunch of free listening in the 'to listen to' column.

yay!

message 15: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments Just by way of introduction, I'm a narrator who specialises in Horror Novels. I've had the pleasure of working with Willie Meikle on a few books, as well as providing the voice to Graeme Reynolds High Moor series along with some other notable authors like Iain Rob Wright.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have :)

They try - they get shot down - I convert them. simples!

message 17: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments I listened to High Moor 1 & 2 on audio that Chris narrated and they were both excellent! I still find myself saying "Moor" in a super thick Scottish accent every chance I get. My family really enjoys it! (Ok, maybe not...)

William (williemeikle) Chris has the perfect accent for my work - we were born within a few miles of each other.

That's cool, Willie! I plan on checking out some of those stories you posted above. I'm just recently getting into audiobooks.

I need to start listening to audiobooks.
I love the old radio shows, but part of me is still resistant to the idea of having someone read to me.

message 22: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments @ Jon
you need to give it a try when the narration is good it is very enjoyable.

I found when I first started I had to get used to it. Now a couple of hundred books later I feel I am reading.

I will, Michael.

I just need to pick up some headphones. :)

message 24: by Walter (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments I listen to audiobooks during my commute to and from work. Mostly Modern Scholar lecture series stuff, though I have listened to a (very) few novels.

Interesting tidbit, I've heard that audio book narrators have their own fanbases, with people following them from one book to another irrespective of the author. If I lived someplace different, I'd consider playing with it myself (I spent years doing theater, have one of 'those' voices, or so I've been told).

message 25: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments @Walter, that is true. some do have fanbases :)

message 27: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments vince didnt do many reads. i reckon the closest you'll come would be Tales of the Macabre slotshe did for Kiss Radio (possibly in the 60s)

Denise (drams5) | 154 comments Michael wrote: "On the subject of "reading" do your friends make fun of the fact that you call it reading when you listen."

My friends don't, but I'm part of a large online book club and there's one guy that jumps in EVERY time someone says they listened to the book and says, "I don't really think that should count..."

Drives me a little bit crazy. Who keeps track of what other people "count" as reading??

message 37: by John (new)

John (frayerbanac) | 336 comments Exactly, Denise.

message 38: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments of course its bloody reading!

So, this bloke thinks that people with sight impairment should be denied a good book? idiot I say!

message 39: by John (new)

John (frayerbanac) | 336 comments I second that, Chris.

message 40: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments Thanks for bearing with us while we, (meaning mostly Scot), have been working to put everything together for our new feature-Group Listens.

Our very first group listen will be in February and the thread for suggestions is now up here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Please pop in and vote. Once we have some suggestions going we will have a poll and the winner will be our very first Group Listen at Goodreads!

message 48: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments i just purchase straight off the audible site :)

message 49: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments im not either Sonya, but folk who say audiobooks are not reading, failto think of those who cannot read in the sighted sense :) bugs me

message 50: by Philip (new)

Philip Hemplow | 31 comments Do people who don't count audiobooks as reading also not count Braille as reading?

Anyway, how did I miss that there was a horror audiobook Zone in this group? I have an audio version of my second book, Sarcophagus, available. One of my readers turned out to be a voice actor with his own professional studio etc. and talked me into letting him do an unabridged adaptation. It's available through all the usual channels (Amazon, iTunes etc.) but if you're quick enough you can use code G7PDYJ26MC7QD to grab a free copy off the Audible UK site. :-O

Hopefully it might float someone's boat. :-)
