Michaele | 6549 comments Thanks!

Want to start tomorrow? We could plan on reading 3 chapters a day (more? less?) and then sharing thoughts as we go. Does that work for you?

message 3: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments No problem!

That works perfect for me, a few chapters a day is a good pace and works with other challenges. A bit more or less is fine though, sharing thoughts as go is great.

message 4: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Perfect!

message 5: by Trip (last edited Mar 06, 2020 12:43PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments I look forward to it! Thank you x

message 6: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Finished the first 3 chapters and it's looking to be the perfect book for me, I adore Oz already and he is hilarious. Theres a lot of humor and his a rather relatable character I feel, also love the setting there's something about the country and historic buildings/places that just always grabs me. The interview is the best and if only it worked that way in reality would be great! Milo and Niahll seem like they shall be rather fun too. Overall it kicks of with a bang and look forward to the rest.

message 7: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Just finished chapter 3.

I am also really liking it so far, it's very funny!

I loved his revenge on his ex, it's great in fiction, though I can't imagine doing something like that in real life.

I also like the history aspect - I am an historian, so this is great (I tend to really dislike historical romances, but I like when there is a historical setting if that makes sense).

I am excited that we will get SIlas's perspective next, I always want alternating POV.

message 8: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Agreed! I enjoyed the revenge too but couldn't contemplate in reality.

Im with you there, although I enjoy historical every now and then I prefer the idea of and setting more definitely makes sense.

Oh I'm intrigued too! Alternate povs are great if done well so be interesting to see his side.

message 9: by Trip (last edited Mar 08, 2020 03:08PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Okay so just finished chapter 6.

Silas pov is amazing and the amount of adoration, feels and sexual tension between these too is just perfection. I'm really pleased with the slow pace though especially considering both their history and the job situation, it adds an interesting factor for certain.

Im still in love with Oz though and he is just so relatable, I'm so with him with the awkward and random outbursts.

The amount of highlights I'm making in this book is ridiculous, but the story has so many hilarious comments and relatable stuff I can't resist. It's great to see the progress in the setting, Oz is pure fierce and I love seeing him put everyone in their place. Also the list his making is just adorable.

message 10: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Oy, I managed to fall behind today - I only finished chapter 5. Sorry, I spent the day grading papers. I should be able to catch up tomorrow - so I'll plan on finishing chapter 9.

I am still really liking it - while I like alternating POV, I am glad we get a bit more Oz than Silas so far. Oz is so funny! I also like that he is good at his job - and that it's his strong, funny personality that makes him so good at it.

message 11: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh no problem!

I agree with you while I adore Silas, Oz has grabbed me although I have enjoyed seeing Silas come out of his shell a bit more now that I've finished chapter 9. Lovely development of characters and slow burn feels is all good, these two compliment each other so wonderfully. Their first official date is just so fitting and I loved it so much! Not going to put too much though as to give it away, but as usual Oz is awesome and it's a lot of fun. I'm also really enjoying Milo too and I realised his is the next book, so I'm probably be quick to jump on that one after this which is rare for me.

Im really enjoying reading a few chapters a day too and getting to take everything in, discuss a little which is what I wasn't sure of in buddy reads as I have a tendency to read fast but it's actually great fun to take time with.

message 12: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments I caught up!

Just finished chapter 9. I think it was chapter 6, but I wanted to mention the driving lesson - that part made me laugh out loud :)

I like that they bumped into Silas' ex, I like to see people get their comeuppance, but for some reason it was a little disappointing. Maybe because he didn't end up groveling, idk.

I wonder if Silas' brother has a book - maybe this is a spin-off? I'll try to remember to check.

If you want we can read Milo's book together too :)

message 13: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments There is a book about Henry and Ivo - Risk Taker.

message 14: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Awesome!

I thought so too, it was just so fitting and hilarious to hear about Silas driving tests too. Reminds me of my own, I've failed 3 times so far... And given up for now.

Hmm i thought it was interesting how Silas Ex and everyone just presumed, that's Silas wanted him back and how Oz put him in his place along with Silas. The Penis Wrangler right? 😂

Oh awesome! I hadn't thought of Henry and Ivos but thats great, it's the 3rd in another series I shall have to look through those now. I have a tendency to like to read in order but I'm see if the others interest me first xx

Definitely be up for reading Milo, thanks xx

message 15: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Just finished chapter 12.

I love that it's like they are going on adventures together and that Silas cares enough to plan it all. So sweet.

I also like the ghost, I don't usually like ghost stories, but somehow this one works.

If anything, this book should make you feel better about your driving tests, unless....did you also break your instructor's nose?

message 16: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments I didn't manage to read any yesterday but will do double catch up today xx

Haha I'd does! Thankfully no, I thought about it but nope. Worst I did was go up the curb on a mini roundabout, other times were minor things 😂

message 17: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments If you just want to read to chapter 12 today that's fine too.

message 18: by Trip (last edited Mar 11, 2020 01:02PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh thanks, I've just caught up to chapter 12.

I adored the date so much i thought it was so unique and adorable, another lovely addition to the setting that was so lovely along with the cove was great. I like the idea of their adventures too, like Silas showing little parts of his life piece by piece and it's so sweet to see their relationship develop. Also the softer side of Oz is intriguing and great to see, look forward to seeing how progresses. Oh andI also like the ghost too, I thought it was hilarious but perfect!

I might read a few more chapters tonight.

message 19: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Hey, I'm going to try to read tonight, but I might fall a little behind. I teach at two schools and they both announced today that we are moving all in-person classes online because of the Coronavirus. I've been dealing with freaked out students all day, it's been crazy!

Luckily next week is Spring Break at both schools too, so I can figure out how I'm going to change all my classes!

message 20: by Trip (last edited Mar 12, 2020 04:15PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh wow, that's understandable! I completely understand, I'm a Teaching assistant at a school and our students constantly talking about too. Although luckily not reached point of closing schools here yet. Good luck with your plans and good stuff that almost break anyway xx

I've actually just caught up to end of Ch18, just got epilogue to go but thought would write up before fully finish. I adored a lot of the development in the last few chapters, from friends visiting and meeting family. Learning more about each other, the humor and all of the feelings! The introductions were just pure perfect Oz, from Herpert Humpadick to the magazine I just smiled throughout. I love Henry and Ivo even more now so definitely going to have a look at their book. Also adored Silas in these getting to see a fiercer side to him along side Ozs more cautious side, it was lovely to see another side of them both and how well they go together. Their chemistry is just beautiful and so lovely xx

message 21: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments I should be able to finish tomorrow or Saturday.

I think they are overreacting a little bit here, I live in Utah and threat is still considered low here - but i guess better safe than sorry!

Sweet, I'm going to hold off on finish till tomorrow xx

Oh really? That is interesting, I'm in the UK and while the threat has gone up in few days they've decide to put off closing things at least for another week or 2. Depending if things progress even further, spring break starts April for us xx

message 23: by Trip (last edited Mar 13, 2020 11:11AM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments I've just finished Oz and while I loved the whole story, the setting and the relationship development was beautiful. The epilogue fell a bit flat for me then again I'm not a fan of huge time skips all that much, although it was really adorable and lovely to see how their life's are in the future. I'd forgot the age of the characters too until then, as they sound a lot younger at times however I loved it anyway.

Look forward to reading the next book.

message 24: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments I finally finished! Sorry I fell behind. It's been so crazy!

I really liked the book, I had the same reaction to the epilogue, I liked it, but also didn't like the time jump.

It was a very sweet book, I think my favorite parts were their dates - I like that Silas approached the relationship with purpose, they didn't just fall together. If that makes sense.

message 25: by Trip (last edited Mar 15, 2020 04:49PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh no problem! I completely get it with all the stuff going on at the moment xx

I'm glad wasn't just me in that and I agree completely, I liked the adventures/dates the most while the setting really worked for me too. Had a wonderful feel to it. I get what you mean and I liked that too, especially considering his history it was great to see the emotions there and the slow build. Especially as could easily have gone the other way.

Let me know when up for doing another buddy read, had a lot of fun with this one thanks for giving me the push to finally read it xx

message 26: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Do you want to read the next book in the series together? Maybe we could wait a week(ish?) and then start it?

message 27: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Sure that sounds good to me, a break between books is perfect too so how about start Milo on 21st/22nd?

message 28: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Sounds great!

message 29: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Awesome!

message 30: by Trip (last edited Mar 22, 2020 02:53PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Going to start Milo tonight, going with 3 chapters a day like before xx

message 31: by Trip (last edited Mar 22, 2020 03:41PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Wow I am already attached and intrigued by this book, it has got a lot more of a serious vibe then Oz but still plenty of humor. Interesting to get a look at Milo and Nialls history, I was in love with them before but already Milo has grabbed my heart. I feel for him so much and again relatable in many ways I feel, Niall is of course lovely too and look forward to more of his pov.

Love getting to see bit more of Oz and Silas, along with their daughter here who is so adorable and expecting to be key to this story. Can't wait to see how this develops and progress of relationship considering these twos history, should be interesting.

message 32: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Well I just made the mistake of looking at friends review then more and well I am now thinking this is going to turn into a dnf for me... Its got one of those things I absolutely cannot stand in books in it. I might give a few more chapters and hope it's not as awful as I'm expecting but not looking good, I'm so disappointed...

message 33: by Trip (last edited Mar 22, 2020 04:47PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments So I've made the decision to drop Milo, I'm disappointed as was expecting to love it but now it's tainted.. I don't know whether I'm glad checked review before got that by far or not, but at least I left it before disappointment.

I'd be interested to hear of your views on Milo though, if you give a try xx

message 34: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments What was in the review? Maybe I should avoid it too!

message 35: by Trip (last edited Mar 22, 2020 04:56PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Well I don't know if should spoil for you, but then again you might be fine with it so

(view spoiler)

Yeah absolutely deal breaker for me.

message 36: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Ick - darn, that's a deal breaker for me too! I had such high hopes for this book!

Want to read something else? I definitely need to stick with something light-hearted. So much stress right now!

message 37: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments I know right! It sucks, I had such high hopes to start with but I'm glad in a way I checked before it could hit me while reading. As that would have driven me mad.

Sure shall we go for The Hitman's Guide to Making Friends and Finding Love (The Hitman's Guide, #1) by Alice Winters ? Or have you got any you really want to read?

Ive got Love Me Whole by Nicky James on ku at moment too if interests?

Im so with you on light hearted, too much crazy in the world at moment. I'm very much for escaping into some good soft books, need all the comfort reads.

message 38: by Michaele (last edited Mar 22, 2020 05:05PM) (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Let's do the Hitman's Guide- it's supposed to be funny, if totally over-the-top.

message 39: by Trip (last edited Mar 22, 2020 05:02PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Sounds good to me, I'm all for humor and over the top is great I'm some settings can see it being a lot of fun here.

message 40: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Just finished the first 3 chapters of Hitman's Guide, so far so good and definitely expect some hilarious moments. Also gives me huge Deadpool Vibes humor wise, the alternate povs are quick but they're very different so it's easy enough to follow. Take a while to get used to the style though, as first person but somehow it fits the story a lot and looking forward to where this one goes.

message 41: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments The book is available on audio - so I'm listening instead of reading - and was cleaning... so I accidentally finished 5 chapters, whoops :)

I think that's also I sign that I'm liking it. It's funny so far. - Leland is so goofy. I can see why people feel like it's OTT, but I think if I embrace the silliness it could be a lot of fun.

Have you read any other books by this author?

message 42: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh awesome, haha its easily done. Yeah, definitely OTT but it'd done in such a fun way xx

Nope I haven't which surprised me, have you?

message 43: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Finished chapter 6, so far this is such an easy and fast paced read with lots of hilarity and ott but it's great fun. Interesting plot too I'm intrigued to see where it goes and more development between Leland and Jackson.

message 44: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Laura wrote: "Oh awesome, haha its easily done. Yeah, definitely OTT but it'd done in such a fun way xx

I read her Christmas book - A Villain for Christmas - which made me laugh a lot. This is very similar.

message 45: by Trip (last edited Mar 25, 2020 01:45PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh that one looks really good, I did have look at before but wasn't sure... Its now definitely on my tbr xx

message 46: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Upto ch 13 now, this book is just so entertaining to read and is pure comfort. Full of sass and sarcasm, it's very ott and yet I love very minute. The plot is also rather interesting too, although it's a lot slower and less focus. I just adore Jackson and Leland all of their interactions are just pure smile and sweet in the best way.

message 47: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments I finished chapter 9 and it was so hard to stop! Especially since Jackson just took Leland to the hospital. I'm glad you kept going, I'm going to go back to reading now :)

message 48: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Yeah shall we say boost to 5 chapters? Haha its so fast paced and some chapters seem so short, so worth it to do more. It's just so easy to get carried away 😂

message 49: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6549 comments Good plan!

I did finish chapter 13 last night. I like their interactions at Jackson's house.

I'm a little confused why Jackson still thinks Leland killed his friend's partner - didn't he decide he was too young to have committed all the crimes attributed to the Sandman? Or was that one recent enough that it could have been him?

message 50: by Trip (last edited Mar 26, 2020 06:33AM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Oh awesome, me too. I love their interactions so much, the husbands and children sarcasm and shower. Scenes are hilarious.

I think it's not just about his friends partner, because the Sandman has killed others right so I think it's mainly where he is a hitman. As Leland has killed some although not innocents, I think it's just the whole hitman thing. Also obviously the police are looking for the sandman even if his not original. I think Leland was too young though for his friends partner as 10 Years ago... He'd have been 17?

Im up to Ch16 now and haven't seen disccusion of his friends partner yet, all of the slow burn and humor continues. I am interested to know more about it though, but its also just fun to see Leland not understanding the kindness of Jackson. Along with Jacksons uncertainty over his feels and not turning him in.
