Since some of you are still working on and still need to read . I was thinking that we should pick a day in February to read this. That way you guys have plenty of time to get both books done before we start this one.

Lol I know this has nothing to do with this book (Which I love by the way, I have the entire series) but I have a daughter named Leah and my mother in laws name is Opal. It was just so random I had to comment :)

I wanted to ask...are we reading this in order of publication or are we completing the entire series? (assuming that we'll continue)

If you want we can try to complete the series. I already have books 4 & 5 too.

We'll see what the others say too. I wouldn't mind either way. Reading the entire series first would be better i think.

Chapters 1-6


(view spoiler)[So far this book is filled with drama. Clary does act the way that Jace says but he really didn't need to be so mean about it. I'm a little disappointed to find out that the new inquisitor is crazy just like the old one. Those people hold too many grudges. It sucks that Simon is being held captive but it is nice that Jace plans on going after him. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-4

(view spoiler)[I really like the way this started. And that it's only a week since the second book ended. I didn't like the fact that Jace lied to Clary about the timings of the portal. I get why he did it, she knows nothing of the place and she wanted to hop in the first portal going that way. I understand she wanted to go for her mother but if Valentine is that side, he'll probably see Clary as a threat knowing what she can do. Luke was right, she was acting like a child throwing a tantrum. I like Sebastian, Aline seems funny...and mean. Everyone there treats Simon as if he walked into Idris willingly. Like he wanted to come. No one looks at Jace. I don't like this new Inquisitor. He's worse than what the previous one was before she became martyr-ish. Luke sister! Yes! I hope that they can reconcile? Even with Luke being a werewolf. I wonder who the guy in the cell next to Simon is.

Side note: I think the attack on the institute was a setup. I think Valentine planned it. It all seems very suspicious. (hide spoiler)]

Finally just started. Not too far in yet - wanted to finish another book first. Excited to jump back into the world of Clary.

Chapters 7-13


(view spoiler)[I knew from the start that something wasn't right with Sebastian and I was right. He turned out to be a complete jerk. He had no right to say those things to any of them. It sucks that she killed off Max. I was quite upset with that. I get that people are going to die in wars but a child was unnecessary. It was weird to find out that Samuel was Hodge all along.. The last thing I will mention is my dislike for the Clave. They really know how to treat people like crap. (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to Chapter 14 now.
(view spoiler)[I also didn't like that Max died. That was unnecessary. Also, I didn't like Sebastian either, but I had no idea that he was a spy and an impostor. I was surprised that Samuel turned out to be Hodge. I thought we wouldn't see him again. I was really happy when Alec said he would introduce Magnus to his entire family if they survived the battle. Chapters 14-18


I will say as of right now this is my least favorite book in the series.


(view spoiler)[Everything about Sebastian/Jonathan has come out. That was surprising to find out. Even though Jace really wasn't her brother it was still gross that they wanted to and had done things together. Since at the time they still thought that they were brother and sister. Then on top of everything else she had actually kissed her brother although only Sebastian/Jonathan knew. One thing I learned was that Sebastian/Jonathan is more messed up and evil then Valentine. Chapters 19 - Epilogue


(view spoiler)[I was surprised by the ending. I didn't think that Valentine would die by an angel. I'm not sure that Sebastian/Jonathan is dead. I did like in the end how Jocwlyn and Luke ended up together. I wasn't sure if she felt the same way as her. I also though it was nice how Simon wanted to try and live a normal life. I hope it works out but since its a book so probably not. Things have to go wrong in order to make a book. (hide spoiler)]


I will say that so far this was my least favorite out of the series.

It seems the weekends aren't a good time for me to read. Hopefully I'll read more tomorrow or the day after, or even finish it.

Hannah, this reads quicker than City of Ashes for me. I can imagine why you're not a big fan of this book though. I have never said 'stupid, stupid, stupid' so many times while reading a book before.

I was the same way. The stupidity of all of the characters was really annoying. Maybe they won't be so bad in the next book.
(view spoiler)[ I was so happy that Luke and Jocelyn finally got together. I was afraid the author was going to play around with that for a while. I was also really happy for Magnus and Alec. They are finally open about their relationship. Now Simon needs a woman. I liked the part with the angel, but it was kind of weird. I knew Valentine would die, but I didn't think it would be like that. Also, Jace dying and coming back to life was weird to me too. I'm surprised that most of the people in the book thought Sebastian/Jonathan was dead. They should have known better when there wasn't a body. (hide spoiler)]
I'm curious to see where this series goes. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Chapters 5-10

(view spoiler)[The stupidity of a few of the characters are still getting to me but I've managed to ignore it for the most part. Where I'm at right now, this book looks great. I'm nearly half way through and the excitement is just starting to build up. So naturally Clary wouldn't listen to anyone and go in search of Jace anyway. Sebastian and Clary...maybe Clary dreamt of him before? She's been seeing weird things in her dreams anyway. It was nice of him to walk her back to Amatis' and then take her to her mom and Valentine's old place. I might hate him now though...how could he? Also, Magnus Bane pretending to be Ragnor Fell totally gave me the image of The Wolf pretending to be Red Riding Hood's gran. Also, I don't like that they keep saying 'little kid' or whatever to Max. Sure, I get that he's 11 but in this world, it seems that you don't get to be a kid. Maybe they're trying to keep him innocent for as long as they can? The Angel locked up in the cellar totally freaked me out. Valentine is like that guy that's totally calm on the outside but when you go to his house you see torture chambers and whatnot. So Jace is part demon? Still doesn't justify that he's trying to get with his sister though. Also, MAGNUS TOLD ALEC HE LOVES HIM! I was grinning wider than the cheshire cat. But alas, the battle...the demons, the wards...at least a little (a very tiny amount) of good seemed to come in between. (hide spoiler)]

I thought I'd finish this today but Social Psychology calls me. And just when it gets good. Sacrifices though...

Oh man. There's just so much already.

Phew...I had to start listening to the audio book for this one. It's just so much better that way. From the physical copy to the ebook and now the audio.

My heart is racing. I'm so close to the finish line. I think about 2 hours remaining. If I continue now, I'll be done at 1am.

Chapters 11-15 (view spoiler)[That hsdsalkjdlkasjdasjdjaslkdldja! I can't cuss here so I'll stick to attacking my keyboard. Sebastian that slimeball! And he still went along and pretended that everything was okay. You know when the bad guy starts to get nervous and he'll do anything to get the victim alone so he starts acting like a desperate worm, yea, that was Sebastian. Poor Max. *Correcting an earlier error- he was 9, not 11* And Samuel is/was Hodge. I feel like I'm reading a more adventurous version of Grey's Anatomy. Just, so much drama. And of course, Luke...I'm glad that he's trying to get the downworlders involved. At least someone's got a brain here. Valentine's stunt on the Inquisitor, freaky! Who does that? I was scared that he was going to pull stuff out. Thank goodness he didn't. There's so much I can't figure it all out, it's like a puzzle in my brain. Jace deciding to go after Valentine was not that bad an idea. They're right, he is the only one that'll be able to get close enough. But really, Luke was correct in saying that Valentine's Jace's father...would he be able to kill him? Jocelyn appearing out of the blue! I guess Magnus did the spell then. Of course, we knew he was going to keep his word. I thought he'd wait though. But now that we have her, she'll be able to help. She did know Valentine better than anyone. (hide spoiler)]

I should be studying, but can you blame me? I want to know how this ends!

Chapters 16-Epilogue

(view spoiler)[Jocelyn's story about what Valentine did to her and to the Herondales was gruesome and cruel and inhumane. So one kid was part demon and the other part angel. Talk about a messed up family. Sebastian being Valentine's son wasn't all that surprising. He seemed immature though, too hasty. Only thinking about himself. I'm glad that the clave and the downworlders allowed themselves to be marked. And yet again, Simon proves to be an anomaly. Marked and survived. I'm glad that Amatis stood up against Valentine. The amount of times people surprised him had me giddy. I guess we know why Imogen felt compelled to save Jace. It's sad that Jace doesn't technically have a name, but I guess he'll always be Jace. (aha! Lightwood, naturally). The Angel Raziel was so powerful and alas, Valentine is dead. Jonathan AKA Sebastian's body floated away, but as Simon once said 'Don't believe the enemy's dead unless there's a body'. Alec kissing Magnus in the Hall of Accords told had me jumping on my bed. Luke confessing to Jocelyn had tears in my eyes. And oh yes, I forgot, I guess this thing between Jace and Clary is now okay since they're not actually related. So many feels.

"I am a man and men do not consume pink beverages. Get thee gone woman and bring me something brown." Gotta live that line.

The Seelie Queen is still weird. Also, I want a book filled with nothing but quotes from Simon. He's the light at the end of a dark tunnel, the positive amongst all things negative. (hide spoiler)]

I don't know if this is my least favourite in the series. The last part was really good. I'd give it a 3.5. Looking forward to the next book.

I have them too. I just started Clockwork Angel about 15 minutes ago for a BR. You guys can go ahead and start the 4th one, I'll join in as soon as I'm done with this one.
