Ever feel like you can't keep your new years resolutions? We're here to help!

This is a reading challenge that will run from January 1st 2015, to January 31st 2015 (Inclusive). Winners will be announced on February 1st 2015.

The idea of this challenge is to make a new years resolution (or more than one) that involves reading, and to stick to it! This could be any number of things -
Examples:
'I resolve to read 5 books every month'
'I resolve to read more historical fiction'
'I resolve to take part in more buddy reads'
'I resolve to finish 6 new series this year'
'I resolve to finish the series I've already started'
'I resolve to clear my review pile'

Your resolution can be anything you want (as long as it involves reading), and you then post your reviews for books which you feel fit your new years resolution. You can choose as many or as few resolutions as you like, and read as many or as few books as you like.

Points:
• 1 point for every book read and reviewed.
• 1 point for every buddy read (Bonus points for buddy reads will only be given if the buddy read has taken place in our group.)
• 5 equaliser points will be awarded for every 1000 pages read.

Rules:
• Books must be read between the 1st of January to the 31st of January inclusive.
• Books must be over 100 pages to count.
• 1 re-read is allowed.
• Our regular challenge rules can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Prizes:
• 1 winner who gets the most points
• 1 winner drawn by raffle

Rachmi | 4882 comments That's a good resolution, Opal! just like mine last year for 2014 resolution, but for me, read 1 classic and more fantasy books. I think I read more fantasy this year but I haven't read any single classic yet. I most likely fail my resolution then, lol.

So count me in, Sarah. Can I tell you later what my resolution will be?

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
I'll add you both ☺

You have plenty of time to decide on your resolution(s) Rachmi ☺

message 5: by Tati (new)

Tati The resolutions are for January only or for the whole year?

Keeping your ARC shelf down is a good one! I managed that for a while but Kindle Unlimited put an end to that.

Tati I'm not sure I'm going to go for Kindle Unlimited... There're not that many books in English

I've given up on the library, they only have lauren kate books, and books which are 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in a series rather than the whole series. They also seem to find ways to fine me, even when it's not my fault.

message 32: by Tati (new)

Tati I don't do libraries either. First, there're not that many here in Brazil, and they only have books in Portuguese. Because translations take a loooong time, I prefer to read in English, as I can read a book as soon as it comes out.

message 33: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
I can imagine it would be really annoying if you desperate wanted a book and had to wait an extra couple of years for them to translate it!

message 34: by Tati (new)

Tati The library I used while I lived in York was quite good! In Brazil, though, it's a disaster... They're not popular at all

message 35: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
I'm in Leicestershire, and our library is pretty boring. They don't even have Thomas the Tank Engine books for my litle boy!

message 36: by Abi (last edited Dec 19, 2014 05:29AM) (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments The libraries by me are rubbish too. The one 10 minutes away only has 3 shelves of YA, and they're mainly second or third in series, or they have multiple copies of the same one, and they're all falling apart.

message 37: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
The last time I went to my library they'd decided to get rid of the YA shelf, and had instead mixed all the YA books in with the adult books, which was so annoying!

message 38: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Sarah wrote: "The last time I went to my library they'd decided to get rid of the YA shelf, and had instead mixed all the YA books in with the adult books, which was so annoying!"

That is annoying!

message 39: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments I feel you Tati! Just realized that you changed your name :) Here in Indonesia, most people don't like reading for pleasure. Most of my friends said they read because they have too. Hence there aren't much libraries here. Even if there is, they barely have anything.

And just like Tati said it needs times to translate English books to Indonesian, moreover from new authors. I have to wait for months for the books to be ready to read. And sometimes I have to deal with unfinished series. In some case the publishers were closed because of bankrupcy or other problems before they publish a whole series. In other case, it was because the previous book didn't give them much money. So they just stop publish the next book. Isn't that so annoying? I got mod most of the time!

I think the last time I went to the library is when I was in uni, a very long time ago, and that was for the sake of my study. So yeah I never get books from them anymore and cannot depend on them.

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments My library is pretty good. When I finish the I'll come and change your libraries!;)

message 43: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Irene, that's awesome! And I'd love to see our libraries change into something good :D

@Tati, you're right. I often prefer read them in English than in my own language. I feel like I understand them better in English. It's kinda strange because they translate it into my own language but most of the time I couldn't feel them.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments This is the most perfect challenge I have ever undergone! I have lots of goals planned out for next year and this is a great, great way for me to stick to them.

2. Read at least ten memoirs/biographies
3. Read at least five graphic novels
4. Reduce my review pile and finish all of the ones I got prior to the 31st of Dec 2014 (my main goal for the year)
