Reading the Chunksters discussion

This thread is for discussion of chapters 1-5 in Book 3. Discussion is scheduled to take place March 25-31.

OK, so now both Tengo and Aomame are actively looking for each other. Except that Tengo is currently sidetracked by visiting his ailing father.

If they don’t actually find each other by the end of the book, I’m not sure if I’ll be disappointed or not.

I thought that Ushikawa sure had some strong intuition as to how all these people and deaths are connected.

It seemed a little strange to have the story told/added to by adding Ushikawa's chapters but it has been helpful for moving the story along a little. He is a strange character and it seems a little unlike this book to have a character who is just a regular person and not caught up in the who 1Q84 year/world. Although Ayumi seems to have fit to that category too. I am wondering if Komatssu will reappear - I keep thinking there is more to him than we have seen so far.

Surely Tengo and Aomame will meet in some form before the end of the book. Not that I'd suggest it will be a happy ending for them necessarily.

Not sure about the NHK collection guys banging down the door. However, if it was someone connected with Sakigake I am sure they would have taken a differnt approach. But I guess we'll see.
