SouthWestZippy | 1543 comments Voted! I will be happy with any of them. I have a few books on each tag already on my TBR mountain.

message 3: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15571 comments Voted! I have so many in my TBR Towers for Revolution and Sequel....i could just close my eyes and pick. Both apply to diverse genres too, fitting any reading preference.

KateNZ | 4101 comments Voted - I have more sci fi than anything else but the other options are great too

message 6: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11702 comments Ok, two are way too broad for my liking, but I'm sure one of the two will be chosen. Of course, I'm sure I can find something for any of them.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12591 comments Surprised (but why?) what is tagged Sci-Fi-who are these people? LOL!

I am torn between Revolution and Sequel (so many series to catch up on)-going to to sleep on it

message 8: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9233 comments This was easy for me and took virtually no thought at all because there weren't any bad ones.

message 9: by DianeMP (new)

DianeMP | 534 comments Voted! I'd be happy with either revolution or science fiction. I don't read too many series, but I can find something to read that will fit.

message 10: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12097 comments Unlike everyone else none of these are instantly appealing.

Is sequel synonymous with sequel? I didn't think so. I have many series but I wouldn't say I have sequel on hand (except for one.)

I like revolution, but I'm not feeling it this minute.

I don't love science fiction, but I have a few that have lingered on my tbr.

message 11: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12933 comments OK folks, next month its really about what you have actually in your house, given that libraries may be closed and we may be on national lockdown, and across the world. Does Amazon deliver in a national lockdown? So I have nothing on my TBR for science fiction and really don't care for it in the least. I would go with revolution or sequels, and have at least one or two for both sitting in my house. They are both fine with me. Tempted to go with Sequels because I have two just waiting that are high up on my list and top the tower of shame in the hall. But revolution has a few that would be great for Poll Tally. So as long as its not sci fi, I am happy. Shall I keep my vote a secret?

I am planning to visit my library every day until they close it, but no one in my house is at high risk and my college kids are now going to be doing online classes--no one will be in contact with the elderly now that my husband is back from his mother's. She's 95 and isn't trying to stay home all of the time, but she has lived a good, long life and might not want to bother being more careful than usual. She has her marbles and has always liked to be quite independent even back in the 1940s when she was very young.

message 13: by Elise (last edited Mar 15, 2020 02:39PM) (new)

Elise (ellinou) Our PM just closed every library in the province, so it'll be books off my shelves for me! Even though I have a shelf full of books I haven't read yet, I don't think I have any that fits either of the categories, so I'll likely end up rereading something....

message 14: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12933 comments This isn’t about the elderly, Karin. It’s about flattening the curve.

message 15: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12591 comments Also have to use books off my personal stash, which is probably a good thing!

Karin | 9233 comments Amy wrote: "This isn’t about the elderly, Karin. It’s about flattening the curve."

Of course, I know all about that--it's all I hear about ad infinitum from my family (I have MD relatives, etc) and it's what my husband was just watching on TV, but it's also about protecting those most susceptible or those who are around them because that's a significant part of those who will need medical attention which is why we need to flatten the curve.

message 17: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments I was just thinking that I need to catch up on some series. I would be happy with any of the choices.

Just to hedge bets I guess I can download a SciFi or two in ebook from NYPL.

Sure, and there are LITERARY scifi books if you are a fan of Mary Doria Russell and/or Margaret Atwood et al. Also, there is one by the author of The Crimson Petal and the White. In fact, at least one of them has at least one scifi book that works for Poll Ballot Tally.

Scifi has an ENORMOUS variety of books.

message 20: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11089 comments Revolution!!!! Oh please please please! I’ve been hoping for something like this. I read more sci-fi already this year than ever before, and I got lots of sequels in as well. I love reading about times of change. How did people resist, live, survive, adapt, etc?

American, French, Russian are the big three, but there have been revolutions all over the world. It’s not just history or historical fiction. There are revolutions in fantasy fiction, sci-fi, space and the future.

Plus social revolutions, cultural revolutions, the sexual revolution (1970’s bingo years), industrial revolution, etc.

I know what you mean Karin. I didn’t fully understand the flattened curve idea until I thought about ventilators. My mom is at a high risk, and we know that if she gets this virus, she will need a ventilator. Even if they create new hospital space quickly (like they did in China), there are only so many ventilators in the world and everyone wants more.

My mom might not even be willing to go to the hospital this time if it means she’ll be on a ventilator for an extended time. She really hated it. Quality of life is more important than quantity. We have to discuss this again and update her wishes on the MOLST form.

message 22: by Meli (new)

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I think I am going to have to leave this one up to fate again... I am reading Recursion next month, so sci-fi would be great! Revolution would be cool, but not gonna fit into my reading schedule and sequel? Yuck. I just can't think of any sequels I am interested in reading right now.

You could always go with the next book in the Inn Boonsboro trilogy! That is my plan if it wins.

I realize that "sequel" often implies "two" but it is clear from the list here on GR that it is not used exclusively that way and seems to apply to series as well.

My library closed as of close of business on Saturday. It was announced about 20 minutes before actual closing. There are some books on the hold shelf for me, and they'll offer curbside pick up today and tomorrow - BY APPOINTMENT. Just waiting for staff to get in this morning to call and request a pick-up time.

BTW ... NONE of the books currently on hold fit any of the three tags.

S*I*G*H

Yes! Revolution isn't just about historical events or political change. It is also the Beatles, the discovery of penicillin, Weinstein's and Cosby's trials, convictions, and sentencings, and the Space Race.

I would but my IRL bookclubs have me booked up (LOL)
I have 2 main bookclubs and one is doubling up for the month with a 2 book thing... However, if I can find this on audio I will listen to it! The first one was not available on audio through my library though.

:(

message 27: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9233 comments My library is still open, so we'll be using it, as I mentioned, but will keep a social distance, etc. But to keep my adult Aspie at home every day--which she does NOT want to do--is far worse a problem for us than this virus given that my husband, who is the closest to being a high risk, isn't going to sit at home if he can work, etc. We know that no client who is high risk will call him.

Self-employed contractors like my husband who are coming to the end of their slow seasons cannot work from home and are usually near the end of the savings, etc, that they have to tide them through the slow months.

My piano students aren't worried about it and aren't showing symptoms, so they left it up to me if I want to teach or not, so I'm going--not just because they pay a month in advance--I can afford to lose one week's pay from today's students--but because they are preparing for the one thing they love to do with piano (these are NOT budding musicians). I'll wear gloves while teaching.

Pianos are easy to clean, and the kids will have more time to practice between lessons if they're not in school. My husband knows a family whose kids went to Italy to perform, and as soon as they arrived, everything was cancelled. So much for "the show must go on."

To be more specific, I do see a "Heather," but she's got a ton of points going way back into 2019 (I only joined in December), and I think there's another one floating around in the group, so I assume that's her and not me. Am I on there and blind? Or did I get overlooked because I'm a duplicate?

No, I am sure you did not get overlooked Heather-or maybe you did-LoL. I know that points are a month behind, so the points shown now are the totals at the end of Feb. If you did not post in Jan or Feb you won't see any points. Everyone gets 1 vote, whether you have points or not. If you think you should have points, Message Anita and she will take care of it

This might be a good time to add a letter, name or symbol to your name to differentiate you from the others. I think the change will retroactively change all your former posts.

Well you know
We all want to change the world.

LibraryCin | 11702 comments As much as I want the narrowest tag, I could be in trouble (for all my monthly challenges - not just PBT) now that my library is closed.

Yes, there are ebooks and audio, and I have some books I own, but ebooks and audio are already hard to get my hands on in a timely manner, and now it will be much much harder!

Same here--I'm all set if it's scifi, but I'm not sure about the others. That said, our library opens April 6, so it might not be terrible, but there is sure to be quite a backlog once they open up. The good news is that nothing will be due before then.

LOL well, I joined in Dec 19. For Feb '20, the only listed "Heather" has 62 points. I posted in Jan/Feb '20, but only three books, I think. 62 sounds pretty high for that many books!

I was surprised to see a lot of books on all sorts of trends or movements on the revolution tag list. Feminism, race, technology, me too, etc.

None of the tags seem very narrow to me, but I don't know if my home bookshelves contain a lot of any of them. I have a few series started, but I rely on the library for those.

For romance lovers, there are a lot of series books on audible escape.

Okay! All fixed. Please note that your books for March won't be added to your tally until the beginning of next month, but I fixed your January and February points. Please double check them and make sure they look right to you. I definitely gave the points to the other Heather! So sorry about that!!!

Anita, correct me if I have that wrong...

message 50: by Joi (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I chose the broadest category. Given everything right now I just want to read some crap- and I think that broadest category will be most conducive to that. I'm not a sci-fi person, but will find something no matter what the outcome.

Also, I've never been happier to be an e-book user.....
