Trike | 11204 comments Tsundoku is a Japanese word that kinda-sorta — ok, totally — describes me, if I’m honest.

“The art of buying books and never reading them”

Trike | 11204 comments Maybe you’ve seen my TBR pile from 7 years ago: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...

I’m afraid it’s probably only gotten bigger.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1803 comments At least you could see them. There are many people with their own digital abyss :D

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments I bought 6 Japanese books when I lived in Japan, despite the fact that my Japanese isn't good enough to make out more than 10% of each, and that's a generous estimate. I just couldn't resist them!

Ruth | 1779 comments I’m not usually *that* bad at this - I get through everything in my TBR pile (both virtual and physical) eventually.
However I have gone into a bit of a panic-buying spiral lately and it’s all got a bit out of control...

I’m glad you at least have your priorities correct, no hoarding toilet paper, or groceries, but reading material on the other hand. ;-)

Well in an emergency I can always rip out the pages of a book I’ve already read and use it to wipe my bum, but if I run out of books, I can’t read toilet paper!

Calvey | 279 comments I used to do that and then everything got so dusty in my house. I gave most of the books away and now try to use digital books or library. I do miss the stacks...but go to local used book store to get that feeling.

Though funny story between my husband and I we bought 4 copies of Red Mars - and I am sure to this day neither of us have read it.

Oh, I’ve done that, too. In fact, in the photo I linked above you can see two copies of Hard Spell, which I’ve still not read.

Mark (markmtz) | 2822 comments Sometimes I get an urge to a read a book I know I have, but it's lost in a pile of books or packed up in a box buried beneath other boxes full of books, so I just find an ebook edition. I wonder if I'll ever see those lost books again?

I just moved my mother-in-law from her house in Cincinnati to an apartment in New Hampshire. Trust me when I tell you that you will eventually see everything you own again. You will find things you didn’t know you had. You will hate every single one of those items.

Seth | 787 comments I somehow managed to stop doing this - though I do bring home lots of library books and carry them back 3 weeks later unread.

Mark (markmtz) | 2822 comments What's the Japanese word for "buying" too many ebooks that are being given away for free to help us out while we are social-distancing/self-isolating/under-quarantine? Asking for a friend.

message 15: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11204 comments “eHoarding.”

You can, but you will need to wash and disinfect the eReader after you've finished ;-)
