Luke (korrick) Much as it kills me, this will draw more attention than Mary Ann Evans. However, it does please me that both the real and the pen both belong in the E's.

Bloodorange (pani_od_angielskiego) | 618 comments I really hope joining this group will finally motivate me to read Romola, perhaps also reread The Mill on the Floss (is it really as bad as it seemed to be 15 years ago?...)

message 3: by Ruby (new)

Ruby (herzschlag) | 19 comments I've been wanting to read Middlemarch for ages - but haven't because I only have a beautiful but terribly heavy hardcover that has proved itself to be somewhat unreadable. This year I want to finally get over myself, buy the paperback and read it, because I'm quite sure I'll love it (and maybe The Mill on the Floss, too?).

I plan to re-read Daniel Deronda at some point in 2015, and possibly a few of her other books. Any others?

message 5: by Traveller (last edited Dec 21, 2014 04:40AM) (new)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Middlemarch is quite an arduous read. I read it fairly recently so would be happy to chime in here and there on a discussion.

message 6: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments I've read Middlemarch and Mill on the Floss both recently but am interested in Daniel Deronda. Again I'm not sure exactly when, but I would like to read it this year.

Great. For me, it definitely wouldn't be until more toward the second half of the year.

That sounds good to me, Proustitute.

message 9: by Luke (new)

Luke (korrick) I'd like to join in on DD if I'm able when the time comes.

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes I'd like to join in on Daniel Deronda as well.

Proustitute (on hiatus) (proustitute) | 283 comments Mod
Does a June 1st start date for DD work for those interested?

message 12: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments That sounds good for me. Do you have a time frame in mind? I usually read more than one book at a time and find it difficult to pour through Victorian novels quickly anyway.

Proustitute (on hiatus) (proustitute) | 283 comments Mod
Same. And I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to read as many books as possible with the group this year!

Maybe a two month timeframe from start to finish? It's lengthy but that should still give us all time to read other books as well.

message 14: by Kris (new)

Kris (krisrabberman) Count me in for DD.

Proustitute (on hiatus) (proustitute) | 283 comments Mod
Wonderful: seems we have a solid number of us reading Daniel Deronda, with June 1st as the starting date.

Shall I create the post in the upcoming reads thread, or does someone else want to do the honors?

message 16: by Angie (new)

Angie Reisetter Middlemarch was my favorite novel for years, and I read it many times over. But I've never read Daniel Deronda, and I would love to do so with you guys this year. June's fine. Anytime is fine.

Proustitute (on hiatus) (proustitute) | 283 comments Mod
Added the book to the upcoming June reads thread, and added DD to the bookshelf: June 1 through July 31.

Looking forward to it!

Rowena | 97 comments I'm hoping to read Daniel Deronda and Romola next year.

Sue | 155 comments The schedule sounds good. Thanks.

message 20: by Kalliope (new)

Kalliope | 93 comments I had already planned MM for this year, having read Romola recently. May be I will also tackle DD in 2015.

Hi Bloodorange,

Would March suit you for reading Romola?

message 23: by Bloodorange (new)

Bloodorange (pani_od_angielskiego) | 618 comments @Rowena - unfortunately, I already have two books scheduled for March (one tentatively, though - I'm waiting for the final confirmation), and since it's my first year of group reads, I'm rather cautious when it comes to 'double-booking' (let's pretend this was a pun).

Right now I'd feel most secure scheduling Romola for October, maybe September, if my Winterson reading buddy won't want to wait that long:( Would autumn be OK for you? If you wish to start sooner, I'm fine with that:)

message 24: by Rowena (new)

Rowena | 97 comments October would suit me just fine, Bloodorange. No worries:)

message 25: by Bloodorange (new)

Bloodorange (pani_od_angielskiego) | 618 comments (with relief, emphatically): Great. Hope to see you around before October, Rowena:)

message 26: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Hi Rowena, Bloodorange! I might be in for Romola in October as well. It is on my radar ever since Kalliope's review. October is fine with me too.
Cheers - Jasmine.

message 27: by Kris (new)

Kris (krisrabberman) I may also be up for Romola in October -- adding it tentatively.

message 28: by Bloodorange (new)

Bloodorange (pani_od_angielskiego) | 618 comments Jasmine: great!
Kris - if you could make it, that would be fantastic.

Kall, I'd love to read MM with you! Perhaps we can arrange something for the second semester? I also have my eye on The Mill on the FlossThe Mill on the Floss, if it interests you...

Luke (korrick) I'd join in with the Romola business.

message 32: by Sue (new)

Second semester is fine. A new bio on her may be comung down in price during the year and I would like to read it before the novel.

message 35: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I'm planning on reading Romola this year so if that's a go, I'll be happy to join in.

message 36: by Kalliope (last edited Dec 30, 2014 11:25AM) (new)

Kalliope | 93 comments Is there a subgroup and a date for Middlemarch?.. so far Renato and I seem interested.. We need a third person to set this up... Renato, any suggested dates?.. (please don't say before second Qtr).

message 37: by Renato (new)

Renato (renatomrocha) I could start as soon as September, if that's ok with you, Kall.

message 38: by Ce Ce (new)

Ce Ce (cecebe) | 17 comments Renato wrote: "I could start as soon as September, if that's ok with you, Kall."

I would love to read Middlemarch. I read it so long ago, for all intents this would be my first read. I may be away in late September/mid October. How would a November/December calendar work Kalli & Renato?

message 39: by Kalliope (new)

Kalliope | 93 comments Good, we have three. I shall open the thread and then later on in the year we can decide when... but for me, Sep, Oct or Nov. are all good.

message 40: by Renato (new)

Renato (renatomrocha) All those work for me as well. Thanks for the thread, Kall!

message 41: by Ce Ce (new)

Ce Ce (cecebe) | 17 comments Sounds good. I look forward to it! Thanks Kalli.

message 42: by Ellen (new)

Renato, I had to proceed with MM since my 'real group' chose this.. but I will read DD in June 1st... and although I have read MotF, I may reread it...

Any ideas when we would like to schedule Romola? (I know, October, but I feel we might set some dates before we crowd the end of the year with other reads;)

Proustitute (on hiatus) (proustitute) | 283 comments Mod
Bloodorange: October might work for me for Romola.

I've been so awful with planning and this group lately: reviews for me are cropping up, and I'm having to prioritize reading for them, new releases, etc. so I haven't been as committed to group reads here in the last two months as I'd have liked to have been.

hoping that changes by the time we plan to start DD.

I know Kall just read Romola recently; who else is up for perhaps reading DD as well as Romola, then, apart from Bloodorange and myself?

message 46: by Sue (last edited Feb 25, 2015 06:50PM) (new)

Sue | 155 comments I'm planning on DD. Not sure about Romola.

message 47: by Kalliope (new)

Kalliope | 93 comments I had to jump ahead with MM, which I am reading now, but plan DD as scheduled.

Sue, Romola is also worth reading... I wrote a review in which I underline GE's scholarship... Admirable woman.

message 48: by Emma (new)

Emma | 2 comments I would like to read both DD and Romola this year, and those dates are good, but I have a terrible record at keeping track of when groups are reading the books I'm joining on. Perhaps I need an alert in my calendar?

Emma wrote: "I would like to read both DD and Romola this year, and those dates are good, but I have a terrible record at keeping track of when groups are reading the books I'm joining on. Perhaps I need an ale..."

If people add them to the shelves with the group read dates, an auto-reminder email should go out to all group members a week before the read is to start.

But yes: seems many YoRW members have been keeping calendars of their own. I agreed initially to so many group reads that I used a tiny calendar to keep track.

message 50: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments Kall, if I don't read Romola with the group, I will try to read it on my own later.
