DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments Sorry I missed it, but then I hadn’t read either book. Hope you had a good time! Missed seeing your lovely faces (or your icons or just hearing your voices or reading comments live - whatever!) see you next time.

Recursion
The Dawnhounds
Grass
The Grace of Kings

Next month's reading choices. I'm actually going to throw my hat in for Dawnhounds.

message 553: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 981 comments I'd vote for anything except Grace of Kings

message 554: by Sandy (last edited Sep 27, 2020 05:04PM) (new)

Sandy | 271 comments It seems I can get all the first three and like you, Chris, I read Grace of Kings and did not like it very much - rated it a 2. Not interested in a reread but will listen if you all choose this.

message 555: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 981 comments Yeah my thought was also influenced by it being on the longer side at 640 pages.

Melanie | 1609 comments Mod
Grass is also pretty long - 544 pages

And, though I expect Recursion to be well-liked, it may not lead to deep discussions. Thus Dawnhounds.

message 557: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments Length is a factor for me, too, and the Crouch--no offense to it--holds no interest, so I'll also vote for Dawnhounds.

message 558: by Jay (new)

Jay | 4 comments I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it to the Zoom meeting... I was doing homework... :(

maybe next time, Jay!

I hear 3 for Dawnhounds

Ryan Dash (ryandash) | 178 comments I vote Recursion, haven't read or plan to read any of the others.

message 561: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments I'm fine with either Dawnhounds or Grass.

message 562: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments First vote Dawnhounds, second choice Grass

message 563: by Mareike (new)

Mareike | 1457 comments My vote would be for Dawnhounds or Recursion.

2ish Grass

I just bought Dawnhounds yesterday. so I'd vote for that.

Allison Hurd | 14225 comments Mod
Given that we average about 10 folks, I think we've now hit the pure majority vote!

Dawnhounds it is. I'll be very curious to hear from you ^^

message 567: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments I would have voted for Grass.

I'm open to waiting for folks to see if they change their opinions!

message 569: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments What is the date for the discussion? I'm kind of assuming the 25th since that's the last Sunday of the month?

message 570: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14225 comments Mod
I feel like we said that it was the 25 but I don't see it? so how does that work for folks

message 571: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments Yeah, I thought so too, but I scrolled through the posts after our September discussion and didn't see it. The 25th is fine for me!

message 572: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 21 comments The 25th works for me as well!

message 573: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments Thumbs up for the 25th.

Allison Hurd | 14225 comments Mod
phew! sorry about that!

message 575: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Eww, Oct 25th is DST fuckery day in Finland, so I'll probably be an hour late or early :P

message 576: by Nicol (new)

Nicol | 505 comments Will it be about Dawnhounds?

message 577: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

I haven't heard from Hank yet, so I might be hosting the meeting this week

message 579: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments For those who don't use Google cal. I had to make sure I have the time right in my head, because of DST changes on that very day, so here's the link where everyone can check what time it'll be in your timezone:

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments I am not sure yet, I would love to join and I even read the book but plans are up in the air. If you could host this week that would be great.

message 581: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 981 comments I didn’t finish Dawnhounds so I think I’ll skip this one

message 582: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14225 comments Mod
No worries, Hank! Much obliged for your hospitality so far ^^

Chris, I don't mean to sound negative, but I would be surprised if the conversation lasted terribly long lol Up to you of course but if you're looking for book time and want to avoid spoilers, maybe just come a bit late?

message 583: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments I thought N America changed time this Sunday, too? Or is it just Canada and Europe?

message 584: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments I gotta get up early on Monday so no go for this one.

message 585: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Diane yeah it’s not everyone changing this Sunday, which always makes for a confusing couple of weeks!

message 586: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments The U.S. changes the first weekend of November, so a week after our call.

message 587: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Now! :)

message 590: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Nov rereads are Deathless and 1Q84, BOTMs are Moon of the Crusted Snow and The Bone Shard Daughter.

message 591: by Melanie, the neutral party (last edited Oct 25, 2020 01:19PM) (new)

Melanie | 1609 comments Mod
November 15th - also a new moon if that matters

rereads
Deathless
1Q84

group reads
The Bone Shard Daughter
Moon of the Crusted Snow

message 592: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments I’m going to try hard to read 1Q84 and Moon of the Crusted Snow. So, my vote goes to those. Alphabet of Thorn is calling me too.

message 593: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Thorn and Leviathan are the December rereads!

message 594: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1609 comments Mod
oops! I fixed the post. {I might just be trying to skip November. Nothing bad can happen if you fast forward past it right?}

message 595: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Yes, that is absolutely allowed! :D

message 596: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1609 comments Mod
1Q84 scares me, but I can step up. Plus I suggested Dawnhounds last month so obviously, my judgment can't be trusted.

I'll throw my hat in for Bone Shard Daughter all the same.

message 597: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I'll have to start looking for my serious pants if it's finally time to read 1Q84 :[

message 598: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 981 comments I’d vote for Deathless or Bone Shard — as much as I like Murakami I can’t imagine myself adding a 900+ page book on top of my other reading plans with less than a month to finish it

message 599: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1609 comments Mod
You have serious pants?
Not judging; just curious.

message 600: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments No, I don't think I do. I alternate between leggings and sleep leggings :P But, maybe some vitamins to help with concentration? Or just a brain lift, that's a thing, right? But looks like I'm not the only one not super enthused about 1Q84 right now, so maybe such drastic measures won't be needed. I'll browse the online shops for serious pants anyway, just in case.
