I’m in — unless I come down with the novel virus that shall not be named. I’ve only read The Collapsing Empire, but am getting cabin fever (an ailment of a different order).

Hi all! I’ll try to join, too. Google tells me we will all be on daylights saving time on Sunday, so 11am EST/EDT would be 4pm GMT/BST and that would be 5pm in Copenhagen. But I’m highly camera shy and usually always Skype (the five times I’ve done it) when I’m home alone, which I probably won’t be, so if I chicken out, that’s why haha.

Okay, I've updated it! Reiteration of where things stand so far:

-We will be using Zoom!
***You do not NEED to install it, but it might speed things up
***Video AND Audio are optional -- there is a chat function
***However, I have used Zoom a total of 3 times, so if you want to make sure it's working and might need help figuring out what's going on, I suggest doing so beforehand because I am useless as tech support.

-I will put up the meeting invite an hour before each session!
***Session 1 is at 10 am ET
***Session 2 is at 7 pm ET

We will be "discussing" the books from February
***The Collapsing Empire
***The Ten Thousand Doors of January
***It's okay if you've only read one or neither! Join anyway!
***Depending on number of people, we may do "breakout groups" to discuss the book or books we've read.

We will NOT be discussing COVID-19 or the things politicians are doing. Everything else is fine, but for approximately 1 hour, we're going to all meet and talk about things that bring us joy.

Yaaaay! I'm very much looking forward to it.

Thanks for doing this Allison! I have way more experience with zoom than I wish I had. My advice would be to download the app well in advance of our meet-up. It might take a while to download, and we’d hate for you to be tardy, I mean late (this isn’t school!) because your computer was twiddling its thumbs!

(I'm not fussed at all about what book we pick, just off the shelf means we have more of a likelihood of having read or at least heard of it :) )

I would suggest we discuss Red Mars in a future meet-up. Or maybe one of the UKL ones?

Thanks for coming! Next time we'll make sure all participants have read a book for discussion so we don't have to worry as much about leaving anyone out. Lesson learned :-/

I'd probably still join even if I hadn't read it. I don't mind listening and it gives me new ideas for my TBR. It's nice just to hear other voices right now.

Are we / you discussing the same two books in the second meeting today?

I remembered something to say about 10k doors but not sure if I'll actually be around for the next meeting. We'll see how it goes.

I don't mind having breakaway conversations in smaller groups too.

I'm happy to join whenever, particularly during all this craziness. Of course we don't want to be a burden on you! So maybe we can treat it a bit like buddy reads, and if someone really wants to set one up, they can perhaps volunteer to set up the Zoom meeting?

I love the idea of you all meeting up when it's convenient for some subset!

I think I can maybe do maybe 1 meeting every 2-3 weeks, personally. But also my audio is worse than my puns, so maybe it's better if you all take lead anyways!
