One day away from having our second ever Thursday VBC!

message 2602: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10432 comments Please note that Europe has DSTed but the US hasn't yet, so this is an hour earlier in Europe than you'd expect. So 4pm EST is 8pm GMT on this particular date.

(Possibly true for other time zones, unfortunately I don't remember everyone's DST dates.)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 660 comments Yo, everybody.
I'm sorry for disappearing... I've been unwillingly phased out of this dimension.

Every year the story is s the same... the first weeks of a new job always disrupt my reading schedule. Basically, there are the books that I read in August, and the ones I read in late October. This year it's taken even longer than usual.

I'll try to get back on board, as far as possible.
I'd really love to take part in the Radch meeting, but I still haven't even started the saga. What's the timeline for the rest of us?
Incidentally, thanks for the Zoom invite on Halloween, but it was 9 pm in Europe and I was out with friends.

I don't believe it has been formally schedueld yet, but most likely towards the end of the month, so start reading/ listening now!

Don't forget to participate in voting for reread since this is part of the pool of books we use to determine future VBC books.

Did we want to schedule a date for Imperial Radch?

message 2612: by Olga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments I think I can finish the last book quickly enough If I concentrate on this one book.

And sorry for the delay, I’m just getting better from the stomach flu.

message 2614: by Aga (new)

I can't make a fancy poll like Allison, but how do we feel about December 8. This weekend is probably too soon and the following is a US holiday.

I personally request we start at 12EST instead of 11; otherwise I will be at least half an hour late.

*for reference: Imperial Radch meet up

message 2616: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments I can make a fancy poll if you want.

I'm up for basically any Saturday or Sunday, but on Sunday I can't make it too late in the evening, because it's a school night and I need to get the kiddos to bed. My time is UTC+3.

message 2617: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments I’m working on Saturday so any Sunday for me. We used to meet about 4-5 PM GMT and it was perfect for me.

Make us a poll please because I am very bad at converting times.

message 2619: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 660 comments I planned Ann Leckie as my big project for the autumn, yet here I am facing winter and I haven't even started the trilogy... not to mention Translation State, Provenance and the short stories. I don't even know whether it makes sense to start now. I might stick to The Raven Tower, since it's stand-alone.

I think you will really like [book:Ancillary Justice|17333324] and should just take the leap and start it. And if you only read the one book before the meeting, join anyway.

lol. I love how there is a real and imaginary Olga in the poll.

message 2625: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments I've read the first Ancillary Book three times, the others once each. I'm okay with just about any time on a weekend, and have indicated as much on the poll :)

Cheryl, Would you be able to come on the 15th? The poll has options for that day too.

@All

The earliest time slot has the most people who cam come, but there is a tie for the 8th vs the 15th, so which day y'all want?

Is there going to be a regular VBC in December? That might encourage us to do it earlier.

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 660 comments I've also chipped in by voting for the later date.

With nearly three weeks ahead, I might be able to finish the trilogy in time. Obviously you're welcome to pick up another date in the general interest, considering that I'm the only one that's lagging behind.

message 2640: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 75 comments I don't have time to read the book by then, but I'll try and make it. I don't mind if it's the 8th or the 15th. :)
