What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I recall:

1. This being futuristic/sci-fi.
2. I think it has a red book cover.
3. I believe the book follows one, young adult, throughout his journeys on EARTH or MARS (I think mars). I think he was an orphan or lost his family.
4. I am almost confident they had to buy, or refill oxygen supplies. There are street gangs, and I believe he steals to buy items/oxygen.
5. I believe he wants to save to get off the planet.
6. I read in around 2006-2008 but I believe the book was much older.

I only read half the book.

It seemed cyber punk-esque, something to do with oxygen and a plot device where he runs out, it felt very futuristic and grungey.
